Pros: Cheap

Cons: You get what you pay for.

The Bottom Line: This once proud brand is a real live reflection of the turmoil currently surrounding The World's Coffee Bean Market. Most affordable coffee beans are affordable for a reason.

I realize that many of my readers are too young to remember Mrs. Olson. She was the old spokesperson for this the other brand that I beat up on. (hint--it comes in a Red can and its name rhymes with soldiers.). She came off as a very sincere old school Swedish version of Aunt Bee from the old Andy Griffith Show. Fortunately she doesn't serve Maxwell House to anyone who crossed her doorway, or help flog the corporate slogan that, " Maxwell House" was, "Good to the last drop." In those days Maxwell house was a very respectable brand. You knew if you opened that Big Blue Can you were going to get something special, or at least, a decent cup of coffee. These days it tends to taste more like something out of those big blue cans we call "dumpsters."

That may seem a little harsh, but I tend to take my coffee fairly seriously. I have a cup in the morning as I skim my notebook and catch up on e-mails before preparing for my morning ablutions. That first cup has a big impact on my day. The Maxwell House of old would have proven up to the task. This new stuff is so lame. It totally lacks flavour or consistency of any type. That becomes even more evident when I have to drink an entire Stanley Vaccuum Bottle Thermos full.----YUCK! Even at double doses, the juice extracted from these beans is pretty weak. If you like caramel coloured water--this stuff isn't bad---but it's definitley off my list.
Mrs. Olson was pretty old when I was a kid, so I'm assuming the worst has happened. Still, I'm glad she's not around anymore. I wouldn't want her to see what depths this once quality product has sunk to, or worse yet--the one she represented as well.

This review is definitely Lean because there are very few nice things to say about this stuff. It's also pretty Mean, because this product was"tassteless" at best.
