Dancing In The Dark is Great For Madison! UPDATE

Pros: Dance Maker works in the dark, easy steps for your five and up to follow.

Cons: Do not get wet, use soft sole shoes, indoor only.

The Bottom Line: Keep your child active, while having fun dancing in the dark. Easy to use and follow steps.

Madison is my five year old granddaughter and she will be six next month. She received in the mail yesterday this dance mat from her paternal grandparents. Madison is very active in dancing, she takes ballet, tap and jazz. So when she saw this dance mat, her blue eyes lit up! She has several other dancing mats, but this one is quite different.

Dance Maker Dancing In the Dark gas blinking lights on the electronic Dance Maker module and it also has a glow in the dark dance mat that also has a wall projector. All your child has to do is follow the steps on the mat which are stars that blink on the module. This dance module has three skill levels. It consists of twelve dance sequences and an automatic scoring. It comes with three pre-programmed dance tunes or you can use your own CD and create your own dance club and dance steps.

This Dance Maker needs three "D" batteries which are not included. You do have an on/off button to save your battery and if your child forgets, it does have an automatic shut-off. There is a focusing ring on the projector to get a clear image and it works rather well. You can also adjust the volume to high, low and even mute!

They do recommend that use this module inside only and place the dance mat on a level, smooth surface.Using soft sole shoes will ensure that your dance mat will last longer. It is very easy to clean by wiping the mat with a moist cloth.

When you use the projector, you should put it at a distance of 6 to 8 feet from the wall and make sure there is not any furniture that the children can fall against. The module can be tilted to a 45 degree angle from the ground. There is a little stand that you can fix the bracket to adjust the module angle. The image on the wall should be about 2 to 2 1/2 feet high. You should also make sure your children's feet are not wet when they dance on this mat.

When using this dance mat, you child should select the skill level (higher level is faster speed) they desire. So first, turn on the switch ON and select from the following:
by selecting the skill level button.
The next step is to select the tune. Watch the LED light to indicate which tune you selected.
There are four dance sequences numbered accordingly. Just step on the mat number that you wish to use.
If you choose to dance with the lights, you must first step on any of the spots on the mat to activate the LED lights on the module. All your child needs to do is just following the blinking lights.

If your child wants to dance in the dark, you must turn the projection button switch to ON. The image is then projected on the wall and your child can step on the stars that are highlighted on the wall or on the mat.

Each dance lasts for three minutes. After the dance, the Dance Maker will tabulate your score. The more steps you get correct, the higher the score. I recommend for little ones to just let them enjoy following the lights and having fun with the music. I would not pay attention to the score until your child feels comfortable doing the steps. The score indicator light is on the right hand side of the electronic module. After three to five minutes of inactivity, the Dance Maker will automatically shut off. Always teach your child to turn the switch to OFF to save your batteries.

If you have a child that loves to dance, this is the dance module for them! I have purchased older dance mats that were just too difficult for my five year old to follow. This is a great game to keep your child active and to avoid the couch potato syndrome!

UPDATE: Madison still plays with The Moose Mountain Dance Maker. She has invited several of her little friends to play with her and they are having a blast! Some of her friends take ballet, tap and jazz classes with her, so they are having fun inventing their own steps to the music.

I still would recommend this Dance Maker for any active children that love dancing and having a good time!

I love this! Thanks so much for sharing. My niece would love it- is it OK for a 10 year old? I know that's outside of the age range, or is it better for little ones? I added this to The Family Room Community- I'm sure they're going to love it on there since it's close to holiday shopping time.
