Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Cleaning Pads

A home cleaning pad by Mr. Clean.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is an innovative cleaning material that penetrates surface grooves where dirt and grime get trapped. It easily and thoroughly breaks up tough dirt, lifting it away from surfaces. And, it does all this with just water alone!

Incredibly useful - but overpriced

I LOVE this stuff!

I used to hate cleaning our shower.  The soap scum that builds up on the walls and the glass doors is incredibly resistant to removal and I hated using smelly chemicals that did not work that well anyway.

I tried a Magic Eraser.  The soap scum just curls up into little balls and you wash them away!

Now, every day before I even get in the shower, I go over it quickly with one of these sponges.   I don't get balls of scum any more, but I can feel the rough spots where a little has built up - the sponge takes those away and of course the shower washes away anything it did loosen up.  Our shower is always shiny clean now - I love it.

I used these on our walls, to clean the dash of my car and the inside of the doors - wonderful, wonderful stuff!

I also used it to clean our grill - I scraped off all the loose stuff as usual, but then attacked the baked on black with the sponge.  I was so surprised to see it come off easily!

The only complaint I have is the price. Four dollars for a two pack?  Come on, this stuff is just melamine foam. Melamine is the  same stuff that is used to make dishes at one time and was used for insulating pipes for years.  The price is ridiculous!

So, I googled for "melamine foam sponges" and found I could buy basically the same thing in bulk for 50 cents a sponge or less.  I bought 36 for $14.00 including shipping!

The ones I got are not quite as dense as the Magic Eraser brand, which means they wear out a little quicker, but at that tremendous price difference, that's not an issue.

We gave two of these "generics" to our neighbor.  The next day, she called and said her husband used them to clean up some grease stains on their stove that have resisted all their cleaning efforts for years. He also used them on her walls and baseboards (scuff marks) and a pewter teapot.  She called to tell me that she has ordered a 100 pack because she wants to give them to her children too!

I really, really recommend these.  Remember that you use them damp, not dry and that they ARE an abrasive - you can't use them on some surfaces, so test a small area first or google to see if anyone else has tried it first.  It's a very, very fine abrasive, so most hard surfaces are fine, but you don't want to use them on dark stained wood, for example.

I love these things! I have another use for them -- scrubbing leather handbag handles. Only certain types of leather though. Great review, Anthony, and thanks for sharing all of these use ideas!

I can see that working though as you imply, you would need to test first. Thanks!

I found a new use - cleaning coffee/tea stains from the inside of ceramic muggs!
