Looks Great from the Outside,but...

Pros: Well-known guests for her interviews and articles

Cons: Way too many advertisements with most of them taking 2 pages!

I finally decided to purchase O: Oprah Magazine last week.I bought the July/August issue for $2.95. From just the outside appearance, the magazine looked great! The magazine pages had a very smooth finish and the oversized magazine made me feel like I was getting a big bargain!

Before I discuss the good points of this new magazine, I would like to point out that there are 274 pages between the covers! I just finished counting the full page advertisements only, and there are at least 132 full page ads. I did not get around to counting the quarter or half-page advertisements. Another thing that I noticed was that these ads were catering to the upper crust society. One example was an ad for a long, black "tank-style" dress recommended for a garden party for a mere $290. Okay, I thought I would read another ad just to make sure there would be something in my price-range. Then I glanced at an advertisement on A.P.C. pajamas for $220 with a robe for only $170. And of course, they dare not mention the cost of the accessories in each ad.

I noticed that no matter who was writing an article, that Oprah seemed to get in the photographs with the people being interviewed! Oprah does write several articles in her magazine. I do enjoy the one on the "Angel Network". I also enjoy the article on how her chef, Art Smith, prepares her favorite "electric lemonade". She also featured an article on "Every Moment is a Gift".

Some of the positive things that I liked about this magazine was the easy to read print and large pages. The photography is great! She does incorporate some of her best tv guests like Dr.Phil McGraw who writes answers to your personal questions. I have always enjoyed his appearances on her show. Oprah even has a financial freedom section by Suze Orman, who I think has been on QVC and several other talk shows telling us how to save and invest our money.

There are a few feature articles helping us to find our "real age". They give you a Real Age Test to take to help you calculate your real age. Then they suggest you buy the book "Real Age, Are You as Young as You Can Be?" The author is Michael F. Roizen,M.D.

I must admit that I have seen most of these people on her daily Oprah Show. There are some articles on preparing food, having the perfect vacation, and learning to meditate. She even has Carly Simon with a Polaroid diary. I do not think that one magazine is all I need to decide whether or not I will subscribe to this magazine. I am very interested in purchasing the next issue and then make my final decision. I am really not sure which class or type of people she is trying to reach at this time. Maybe I could send her a suggestion to put some coupons in it! It is an entertaining magazine, but I can not identify with most of the issues.
