The Bottom Line: For the cost of $2.99 this was a good alternative wipe
For a few weeks I had strayed away from the Huggies® brand baby wipes that I had come to rely on for many years. I was in a financial bind and tried to cut corners by purchasing cheaper brands of baby wipes. Each time I went to either Rite-Aid or my grocery store another brand would be on sale. After checking the ingredients to make sure Lanolin was not listed, I would make the purchase and regret it once I neared the end of the container of wipes.
I started out purchasing two containers of Luvs Ultra Thicks at $2.99 followed by two tubs of Baby Magic Wipes for $5.00 a few days later. The last choice in my quest to find a better wipe that was at a lower cost was the Pampers® brand. They sell for $2.99 at Rite-Aid and had two varieties to choose from. I actually picked up both since I could not make up my mind, plus they both appealed to me.
Pampers Original Cotton Care had a nice feel to them but they had a strong scent. The other tub was Pampers Natural Aloe Touch - Unscented. The containers have the One-Ups!® system. These are not yet shown on this website but the manufacturers site shows them this way. I utilized the unscented container last and preferred it to the original one. The tub has a flip-top lid that reveals the slot where the wipes are inserted through the One-Ups!®
At least with the Pampers Unscented Wipes there was no separate package inside the container that had to be opened like the Luvs Ultra Thicks. I am still amazed at how small these other brands of wipes are compared to the Huggies®. You will still have to push the wipe at the top of the pile to get through the slot and then snap it shut. The wipe is folded with a larger overlap on one side than the other side. This is not as long, thick or wide as the Huggies® and I find myself having a hard time adjusting to the smaller size, thus I used more to get the job done.
I do like how the container has visuals showing not to dispose of these in the toilet. This is shown on the bottom of the container and can be read in three languages, English, Spanish and French. There is also a claim that these work on hands and face, but I chose not to try this out on anyone in my household. These were easier to continue the flow through the One-Ups!® system compared to the Luvs Ultra Thicks, but once you get near the bottom the more moist they become.
I have never had this happen with the Huggies® over the years, and felt I had to dry my son off after wiping him, which created another step in diapering. These seemed more like a washcloth than a wipe to remove particles from my childs behind. Perhaps the Pampers Unscented Wipes would work well outdoors to clean up dirty hands or to assist in bathing time in the tub.
I have been in the habit of opening several wipes and having them ready before I proceed to remove the diaper. With these One-Ups!® system it is hard to have more than one out at a time and then if you pull out too many you need to open the second flap to place it back in the pile. It bothered me to have my fingers wet when I needed to focus on getting the area cleaned. My fingers would be sticky and hard to grasp the opening flap of the container.
Pampers Unscented Wipes like all others should be stored at room temperature with the lid closed tightly. Since this has the open slot it is imperative that children do not place their fingers into that opening. They sell refill packages that will fit inside the container. The container comes with eighty wipes and contains the following gentle ingredients:
Pampers is also one of the brands that you can regularly find coupons for their products, check their website at www.pampers.com or call them at 1-800-726-7377 to request some. Another negative is that you cannot use the containers with ease for other items such as pencils or cosmetics and there does not appear to be any points on the containers to save for promotions. The wipes did not clean as well as some of the other brands that I tried. I would rate these higher though because they are not scented, which can be a distraction to the child and the wiper.
