Fresh mint and shea butter make this natural lip balm a winner!
Nov 18, 2009
Pros: Natural, inexpensive, soothing, hydrating, mint is refreshing, thick and rich
Cons: Does not contain sunscreen
The Bottom Line: Perfect Organics Fresh Mint Shea Butter Lip Balm isn't perfect but close. It's hydrating, soothing, rich, and refreshing. And all natural!
It's nearly winter and that means parched lips. I have dry lips year round but, in cold weather, they get downright ridiculously dry and chapped if I don't constantly bathe them in moisture. I always buy a bunch of balms to use when the cold weather hits. I bought all three scents/flavors of Perfect Organics Shea Butter Lip Balm recently and like them all.
The Fresh Mint is is hydrating, refreshing and, best of all, it is completely natural.
About the Product
Our Shea Butter Lip Balms moisturize, protect, and soften your lips with 100% natural, vitamin-rich and healing ingredients including sweet almond oil and hazelnut oil. With refreshing peppermint oil, this effective and super nourishing lip moisturizer is your best bet for smooth, soft lips!
Perfect Organics Fresh Mint Shea Butter Lip Balm comes in a .25 ounce white plastic tub with a screw on/off lid. It has a blue label. The other varieties, Citrus Orange and Vanilla Twist, have an orange and purple label respectively. The balm is opaque white but doesn't color the lips white. It goes on clear and somewhat thick.
I had never tried this brand of lip balm that I recalled and the price was right at a few bucks a tub. I really liked that the product was all natural since I always end up with balm in my mouth. After a while, all those chemicals have to add up!
This balm is nicely scented with mint that awakes the senses. It really doesn't have a flavor but I taste a tiny bit of mint on my lips from the essential oil. It is not sweet like lip butter.
I apply with my finger, which many people think is gross. I am the only one who uses the balm so I wash my hands before applying the balm and don't sweat getting germs in it. It can be applied with a brush, of course.
The balm is very thick and almost hard at first. It does tend to soften a bit but it is so thick that one could turn it upside down and shake it 100 times and it wouldn't budge from the container.
On my lips,Perfect Organics Fresh Mint Shea Butter Lip Balm is soothing and tingly. I like the tingle a lot. It isn't a medicine mint tingle. It's more of a fresh, cool tingle. My lips feel a bit cool at first which is soothing on sore, chapped lips. I cans smell the mint for the entire time the balm is on my lips but it is subtle and again, not at all medicinal. The balm isn't greasy but is thicker than typical stick balms. It soothes, hydrates, and seems to protect my lips from more damage. It doesn't contain any sunscreen but I generally use balms at home inside anyway. The balm lasts about an hour on my lips before it slowly fades away. It does leave my lips softer and in better shape when it fades away.
Perfect Organics Fresh Mint Shea Butter Lip Balm gives my lips a sheen but not megawatt shine. I could use it over matte lip colors but I don't. I prefer to use it alone on bare lips. I'm not looking for a balm that doubles as anything. I just want a good balm to hydrate my lips and soothe the dryness. This one does, as do the other two varieties.
For around $3.00, it's hard to beat this balm. While it is not medicated per se, the ingredients sooth and hydrate and they're organic and natural. I don't have to wonder what chemicals are sitting on my lips and getting into my system. I use other balms, of course, but I really do like this brand and will continue to use it. It's inexpensive and very effective on my thirsty lips.
Perfect Organics Fresh Mint Shea Butter Lip Balm and the two other varieties can be purchased at stores that sell natural products or at certain drugstores on and offline. I actually got mine at Alice.com, which is a small online grocery store/drugstore combo so the brand is not exclusive to natural products stores. The price is between $2.99 and $3.99 depending on where you get it. A tub lasts quite a while because the balm is so very thick and not much is needed with each application.
I really like using Perfect Organics Fresh Mint Shea Butter Lip Balm because it is effective, inexpensive, and natural. The mint is a fresh feeling and smelling one. It actually makes my breath better! This balm won't heal sores or other major lip issues but it will definitely moisturize and soften parched lips and protect them from more damage. There is no sunscreen in this balm though so you may want t to use something different when out in the sun. 4 stars.
