Pros: Sleek design, Polar logo, lightweight.

Cons: Difficult to install HRM wrist straps through supplied slot.

The Bottom Line: Definitely recommended for the Polar Bike HRM user that wants the Polar name. If not, pipe insulation and tape can be an excellent inexpensive substitute.

This review is based on over one-year's continuous use of this product. This product from Polar is designed to be used with their heart rate monitors (HRMs) that include a bike function. These heart rate monitors include the S150, S510, S520, S710, and S720. My experience will be based on my S510 HRM which I also reviewed: http://www.epinions.com/content_53695123076. This Polar Bike Mount is included with all of their HRMs with the bike function. The bike function is designed into these HRMs to replace your conventional bike computer that reads your speed, distance, time, etc. The Polar Bike Mount offers a convenient way to install your HRM onto your bike without having to look at your wrist while on the bike for your speed, time and distance information.

Ergonomics: Compared to using your wrist, it offers a convenient, conventional and safer way to look up your bike riding information while riding. Also, by having the Polar Bike Mount on your handlebars, you definitely reduce the chance of having your HRM too far from the wireless sensor which I also reviewed: http://www.epinions.com/content_123115376260.

Ease of Installation: With the supplied rubber-backed tape and zip ties, they supply the mount with a secure force onto the handlebar to reduce slippage. I decided not to use the rubber-backed tape just in case I decided not to use the Polar Bike Mount and leave a sticky mess on my handlebar. There are three slots provided which the zip ties are threaded through to secure the mount to the handlebars. Pull them as tightly as possible and cut the excess off with a pair of wire cutters. Having used only the zip ties, I have not experienced any slippage while on the road. Haven't tried it off-road but I would not expect any problems with this set up. Just make sure that the Polar logo is pointed towards the front of your bike for the best possible aerodynamic advantage.

Weight: On my Pelouze digital scale, it read 20 grams.

Shape and Size: From the image on Epinions, it is somewhat ovoid in shape with a large open slot in the back for the mount to slide over your handlebars. The size is about the thickness of the average wrist.

Materials Used: A somewhat flexible, hard plastic.

HRM Installation: The shape and size of the Polar Bike Mount lets the HRM mount correctly. The only difficulty I experienced every time I installed my HRM is threading the wrist strap through the slot in the front of the mount with the Polar logo. It takes some effort to have both wrist straps go through this slot in order for you to secure the wrist strap onto itself. This is the only weakness to the Polar Bike Mount design that I have experienced.

Conclusions: If you one of those individuals that have one of the Polar HRMs with the bike functions, you probably have installed and used this Polar Bike Mount already. I would definitely recommend this product for the current Polar Bike HRM user who needs another mount for another bike and wants the Polar name. If you don't care about the Polar name, I would suggest you purchase pipe insulation and tape found at your local Home Depot. I have some riding buddies that have done this without any problems. It may not look great but it does get the job done very inexpensively. I hope my review information was of assistance to you. Happy riding!
