Cons: if lid is left open the wipes are no longer moist
The Bottom Line: This is an alternative to regular wipes and can be used on face and hands too
Weeks ago I went through a phase where I was trying to find a cheaper version of baby wipes, but in the end I went back to Huggies Naural Care. Since then I have found at Big Lots the refill plastic packages that contain 176 for $3.99. This is the 160 size with a bonus of 16 more wipes. My seven-year old son has always used the Huggies Natural Care when utilizing the toilet and tosses the wipes into the wastebasket, which is the kind that is enclosed needing to press down on the lever to open.
I figured he might want to change this process and have the opportunity to toss the wipe directly into the toilet so when I came upon the Quilted Northern Moist-Ones I picked up a box for $2.99 at the grocery store. These are not in the aisle with regular wipes, but beside the toilet paper section, usually at the top shelf. I was not expecting to find a refill package inside the container, so I had to open the plastic covering to the white tub and then remove the plastic refill bag to empty the wipes into the container.
Would have been nice not to do that step, but I presume this was to keep the Quilted Northern Moist-Ones moist and secure. The dispenser is their own trademark known as the Quick-Up Dispenser. Since the refill package contains fifty wipes that is what will be inside the container. I am allergic to lanolin and cannot use wipes on my youngest son that is still in diapers, but since I have nothing to do with the seven-year old and his wiping process I was not too concerned with the ingredients. It is a habit to check ingredients so I did look over to find this does not contain lanolin so I could use it when on the road on my face or hands or for personal use in the bathroom.
It is suggested on the plastic packaging to use only one or two at the most for every flush. The container can fit easily in one hand to bring with you when travelling and can fit inside my handbag and a diaper bag for excursions on the road. The lid is opened with your fingers or thumb to flip it open, and then there are the plastic sides within a round slot for each wipe to be pulled up through. This was easier than the baby wipes I had been testing.
The container is also snapped shut in the middle so there are two ways to open this up. These both must be closed firmly or the moistness will be depleted, as was the case with the end of the contents for us. These are small wipes, think the size of toilet paper in schools, smaller than a napkin (not that kind!), and folded into three parts. To give an idea, a Huggies Natural Care measures seven inches long by eight inches high. The Quilted Northern Moist-Ones measures 5.5 x 5.5. I guess that would mean that babies buttocks are bigger or perhaps they just crap more intensely. These are thick for the small size and do not burn the skin. They are Dermatologist tested and include the following ingredients:
There is no scent to this and it helps that fragrance is the last listed ingredient, so it probably is very faint if you have a sensitive nose. This is a product made in the U.S.A., manufactured by Georgia-Pacific. The website has a spot where as of this date you can still get a sample of the Quilted Northern Moist-Ones. I cannot compare the wipes to their toilet paper products because we are a Scott brand user.
Once I find a product that works I stick with it until they either update it with changes or discontinue the product. My son did not like changing to another size wipe and container, plus he still tossed the wipes in the wastebasket. It was a bit too much of a change for him so he is back to utilizing the Huggies Natural Care. I do plan on purchasing a refill package to keep this handy in the car. It is the right size for quick wipes and clean ups.
Another suitable time for using the Quilted Northern Moist-Ones is when potty training and keeping these in a bag. They can be utilized when needing a public restroom and to teach kids toilet etiquette and what not to do when you come across it at these public facilities. Plus the fact that many restrooms have lousy toilet paper, if any.
The container is an off-white color with the log Quilted Northern on top, but it is hard to read and no one would know what you are carrying around if you brought it inside Burger King or some other fast food place. This is a nice dispenser that needs to stay shut when done to keep the wipes moist, otherwise just rinse under the sink to get them wet again when you have no other choice.
The Aloe and Vitamin E makes this a pleasant wipe for any part of the body. Should you have questions on these Quilted Northern Moist-Ones call them at 1-800-283-5547.
