I got this coffee maker before reading the reviews on Amazon, and when I did read them, I became a bit concerned. The first night, after setting it up, I anticipated a high pitched shrieking noise to start any second. However, it's been over a week, and so far everything about the coffee maker is working perfectly!
The set up was extremely easy to figure out, and even if I had gotten stuck, the manual that comes with the coffee maker is quite thorough and helpful. It was very simple to set the clock, and although I haven't tried yet, I'm sure it would be just as easy to set a timer/alarm. You can also easily change the temperature that you want your coffee to be, and once it reaches that temperature, it will maintain it for quite a few minutes.
The maker comes with a charcoal filter, which you apply in the same place where you pour the water. This is there to basically purify the water, and you will still need to use some coffee filters with the coffee grounds. If you are using already pure water, though, you are not required to use the charcoal filter.
Overall, I have so far been very pleased with how the coffee maker has functioned, but if it ever malfunctions, I will edit my review accordingly. As a last note, the coffee maker does come with a year warranty in case anything were to go wrong. Since nothing has gone wrong yet, though, I intend to continue enjoying the maker and the coffee.
