Ant Poison is People Poison, But Safer Brand Ant Killer Appears to Be Less So.

I feel weird reviewing an extermination product.  I am a pretty peace-loving, live and let live California hippy.  But ants bring out the inner tyrant in me.

When I see them marching along their little lines, I try to first stop them with a barrier of dishwashing soap.  This is a trick I used to watch my Mom implement when ants invaded our abode every rainy season.  They can't cross a line of dishwashing soap until it dries.  This is the first line of defense.

The second line of defense are those ant traps.  You know the kind, sort of hexagonal with a little circle of brown sugary poison meant to lure ants into a state of false security.  Watching ants get fooled by those ant traps, and knowing they're going to bring that poison back to their queen, I always feel a sense of victory.

When these tactics, combined with simple squashing techniques (Kleenex-brand tissues are helpful here), fail to bring suitable results, people sometimes turn to ant killing spray.

For some reason, the spray is often the last resort.  This is because it's hard to feel good about spraying poison into the air of your home.  My fiance recently came home with a product called "Safer Brand Ant Killer."  It's mint-scented, which is wierd, and apparently it messes with the ants neurons--naturally!

I don't feel good about using the spray.  I feel like it's an unfair advantage that I have over the ants.  At least with the dishwashing soap wall they can choose to turn back.  Alternately, they can choose to not take the sugary poison from the ant traps.  But they have no control over me spraying them.  It's a difficult task.

I just sprayed this ant killer all along the line of ants in the kitchen.  It appears to have worked...but I'm not sure how I feel about it.

How great to finally have someone validate my ant-hatred. I'm totally on the same page: relatively peaceful, let spiders outside (most of the time), not big on annihilating living things... BUT I loose it when I see those marching minions! I wish the review itself had more to do with more details about the product, but nonetheless was highly entertained to know there's someone else out there who shares my ant issues. I find Windex is also a good initial line of defense - wipes them out long enough to go get the "hard" stuff ; ) But with a toddler on the loose, my house isn't the best place for the traps anymore, so this natural remedy is certainly of interest. Thx!
