Pros: Gentle, inexpensive, hydrating, anti aging, nice scent, exfoliates without harshness

Cons: May be too gentle for those who like super scrubby scrubs.

The Bottom Line: St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm is made for aging skin. It gently but effectively exfoliates and renews skin for fresh, dewy, younger looking skin.

Note: The official name of this scrub is St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm.

Although I really like St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub Oil Free, I knew I needed something less drying as a regularly used scrub. I picked up St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm along with the Green tea one and have been using it fairly regularly. I like it. It isn't harsh or drying and it's just enough to help exfoliate without being too much.

Manufacturer's Info

Packaging

This inexpensive scrub comes in a 6 ounce white plastic tube with shades of apricot (not surprisingly) and light green on the exterior. The scrub stands on it's flip cap. The scrub itself is slightly off white with visible darker exfoliating particles. It has a light, fresh scent that I find pleasing.

My Experience

I usually use high end scrubs but money is tight this summer so I stopped at the drugstore and picked up the two scrubs from St. Ives as they were on sale and seemed to be decent products.

This scrub is slightly off white and I can see brown particles in it. It smells slightly fruity but it is super subtle and I like that. I don't like anything too fragrant my face. I don't need the added fragrance on my skin and my allergies often balk at strong scents. This scrub doesn't cause any negative reactions on my skin or from my allergies.

St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm
comes in a paste-like form that could be mistaken for a mask. It's fairly thick and the particles exfoliate but not too harshly. It's not TOO gentle but it does take care not to go overboard and cause skin irritation and redness.

The claim by St. Ives is that this scrub has a unique moisturizing complex that helps skin to retain moisture and to give the appearance of firmer skin. It contains alpha hydroxy in a low concentration to aid cell turnover without the need for heavy scrubbing. This is NOT the original St. Ives Apricot Scrub and some have expressed dismay that the formula has changed. I don't believe it has. They are two separate products. This one is for aging and mature skin and noticeably less "scrubby" than the original.

When I use St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm, it doesn't lather as it's not a foaming scrub. I wash my face first with a gentle cleanser then use the scrub. At first, I thought it was too gentle to actually exfoliate but the results proved otherwise. My skin looked fresh, renewed, and glowing with no signs of tightness or drying. I didn't notice any firming effects but I did feel as though I had pampered my skin rather than took a Brillo pad to it as some of my previous scrubs have made my skin feel.

I use this scrub a few times a week. I have backed off of scrubbing every day because I really think that is just too much and unnecessary. I use this and then I will deeply scrub with the Green Tea scrub once a week or every 10 days to get very deep down into my pores.

I haven't had a breakout in ages and my skin is clear and looks healthy. I am almost 47 years old so I don't want to use anything super harsh on my skin these days. I think St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm is just enough for a gentle, every day or every other day scrub for maturing skin.

I have not had any stinging or burning at all when using this scrub.

Buying Info

You can purchase this scrub at drugstores and mass-market stores on and offline. I believe the price is around $4.00 a tube. I used to spend $25.00 on three ounces of sugar scrub. Now I am spending $4.00 on six ounces of scrub and the results are about the same. Ka-Ching!

Conclusion

if you're looking for a super scrubby facial scrub, you probably won't be satisfied with the gentle exfoliation of St. Ives Timeless Skin Apricot Scrub Renew & Firm. It had the benefits of alpha hydroxy to do some of the work without the irritation. However, if you have mature skin and want to rid your face of dead skin cells and get a nice glow without shredding it, this scrub may be what you need. For such a low price, it's worth a try for sure! I like this scrub and am getting used to a kinder, gentler scrub as I use it. 4 stars.
