This is quite a well written book by a first time novelist. It concerns a series of killings of people in Chicago who seem to be murdered when the Cubs lose a ball game. The police are stymied, and when one of their task force, a reformed alcoholic named Slats, ventures suggestions and ideas, they tend to disregard them. Slats has problems of his own.
