Tom's Natural Toothpaste Orange Mango: My son actually likes it!

Pros: My son actually likes the taste. Natural flavors.

Cons: Can be hard to find this particular flavor, in the stores

The Bottom Line: If you child dislikes minty, bubble gum flavored, tutti-frutti flavored toothpastes, give Tom's Natural Toothpaste Orange Mango a try.

The Bottom Line Tom's of Maine Natural Anticavity Toothpaste for Kids in Outrageous Orange-Mango flavor is a hit with my son. It's a delicious, all-natural fruit concoction!

As a busy mother, I like the numerous tasks in my day to go smoothly. You know all those tasks: make dinner, help them with homework, buy them the school supplies they need for tomorrow morning but somehow forgot to tell you about, pack their lunch, give them money for the field trip, get them in the tub, take them to the doctor, take them to get a haircut, have them brush their teeth, and all the rest.

Now, you heard me mention brushing their teeth. For years, this was a struggle with my otherwise easy-going second son. This is a boy who rarely gave me a hard time about anything. He ate spinach and mushrooms and artichokes, for goodness sakes! He enjoyed spicy foods. Yet, there was this daily battle over toothpaste!

Which toothpastes did we try?
My son did not like any of the routine mint-flavored toothpastes. We tried them all. That was obvious at a young age. “No problem”, I said at first. There are lots of other kid-flavored toothpastes out there. You know the ones. With the neon bright colors and flavors called “Berry Blast Tutti Frutti Bubblegum” and stuff like that. With bright images of StarWars, Batman, or whatever else was being marketed that month. So, we gradually tried them all. That didn’t help much, as he didn’t like THOSE either. And, all we accomplished was to find various globs of hot-pink or neon-blue paste all over the bathroom counters.

Now what was I to do? I was growing weary of the daily battle, yet my son#146s solution, that he just NOT brush his teeth, was certainly NOT going to fly!

Finally, after years of trial-and-error, I have found the solution!
Well, I have found a solution, and I am posting this review, in case there are other mint-detesting, bubble-gum-berry-blast-hating kids out there. Somewhere along the way, I purchased a tube of Tom’s of Maine Natural Anticavity Toothpaste in Outrageous-Orange-Mango flavor. The amazing thing: MY SON ACTUALLY LIKES IT! Hooray. One problem solved! We have been purchasing this toothpaste for my son for a couple years. He is now 11 years old. Since we first tried this toothpaste, he now brushes his teeth faithfully twice a day, without a single complaint ever. How’s that for progress?

Details and ingredients:
So, let me tell you a bit more. This toothpaste comes in a white tube, with bright orange trim. The ingredients are amazing, as you will see. The ingredients seem more like a fruit smoothie, than a toothpaste! No wonder my son likes it! And, it’s all healthy stuff!

Active ingredient: Sodium monoflourophosphate
Other ingredients: glycerin, water, calcium carbonate, silica, fruit extracts (orange, mango, banana, pineapple, and other natural flavors), carageenan (seaweed), sodium lauryl sulfate (from coconut oil).
Stuff that’s NOT in there: (from the label): No Saccharin, No artificial sweeteners or preservatives, No artificial flavors or colors, No animal ingredients.

Any negatives:
The tube material does not seem as flexible as the tubes from other brands. As a result, it is tricky to get out the last few squirts of toothpaste. And, in fact, what generally happens is that eventually, the tube springs a “hole” in the side, and toothpaste starts leaking out the side of the tube, instead of only the top. Usually, around that time, I just discard the tube and start a fresh tube. But, I’m cheap. I hate to waste anything.

Also, this toothpaste, in this particular flavor, isn’t available in every store, so you have to look around for it sometimes.

Summary:
Overall, this is a great toothpaste, and after our experience, I highly recommend it. It’s delicious. In fact, don’t tell him, but I sometimes use “his” toothpaste too. You can find out more information at www.tomsofmaine.com

We use a strawberry flavor Tom's of Maine fluoride free toothpaste for my daughter and I don't think it is so much the paste she doesn't like, it is the act of brushing teeth. Maybe if we try this flavor she would like it better?! Thanks for the tip! :)
