Taking on the sweep of the Irish struggle for independence over a three-century span would be a daunting historical task, but attempting to do it as historical fiction is beyond the scope of all but the best writers.  And while Uris had a couple decades of great sales success and popularity as a writer of historical fiction his skills are not up to the task here.
