VS VOLUMIZING MOUSSE: The Ultimate Product Line Gets Better
Aug 20, 2001
Pros: thickens, unisex fragrance, light, long lasting, easy comb-through
The Bottom Line: Like Cinderella in the fairy tale, the discovery of the VS volumizing products has been a dream come true. The mousse is another of these fantasy products.
Ahhhh, yes, another delightful product that I actually relish reviewing.
To get a complete understanding of how much the VS line of hair products means to me, see my other VS reviews. I have had several years experience with this product line, even though it has only been officially on the national chain store market for not quite a year.
HOW DID I MANAGE TO GET THIS PRODUCT?
After being given so many of the fabulous VS products to test out on me and my husband, I thought that I was completely satisfied with my new hair care regime.
I would wash with the VOLUMIZING HAIR WASH, condition with the LIGHT DAILY THERAPPE(I think they have changed the name of that again), use both the THICKENING SPRAY & ULTRA FIRM HAIR SPRAY, and my hair looked picture perfect.
Before VS made the general announcement that they were finally going to put this amazing product line on national chain store distribution, I was on one of my regular haunts at their web site, trying to figure out a catchy way to BEG them to do just that.
I was thrilled to see that they were offering free samples.
Of course, I signed up immediately. And I signed up my husband, and my mother and my friend and anyone else to whom I had been crooning about this line of products who had been waiting to try them.
WHAT IS IT LIKE?
It was quite some time later when I received a sizeable box in the mail. It was pretty heavy. I saw the VS logo on it and fairly shrieked with glee.
I figured that they would send me a bottle of shampoo or something. Imagine my shock and thrill when I saw a NEW product that I had not had the pleasure of trying yet - VOLUMIZING MOUSSE.
Hmmmm. I had tried mousse in the past many times and it never worked. Made my hair greasy EVERY time. Well, I figured that this would probably do the same thing.
I should have known better.
When I first tried this mousse, I washed my hair and conditioned it as usual with my precious VS stuff. After towel drying slightly, I squooshed out a puff of mousse into my hand and with my head upside down, I smashed it evenly throughout the root area of my hair. I did not bother with the ends, because the other products would take care of that.
I did not use the THICKENING SPRAY as I did not think I would need it. I dried my hair upside down, squishing and scrunching it with my fingers as I dried it.
WOW! I was seriously amazed. This stuff really added body! I only needed a slight amount of hair spray to hold the generaly shape of the hair style and I was good to go.
At the end of the day, I was met with a wonderful surprise. My hair was not greasy! It was also very easy to comb through and my style actually lasted for 3 days, the third day needing some refreshing with hair spray and looking a tiny bit flatter, but not bad at all.
Some of you are allergic to things, so here is a list of ingredients:
water isobutane polyquaternium-4 propane (don't smoke while using this!) myristoyl hydrolyzed collagen panthenol panthenyl ethyl ether propylene glycol C9-C11 pareth-8DMDM hydantoin(whew, that is a mouth full) disodium edta fragarance (really nice, not overwhelming and unisex) keratin amino acids citric acids
I have used this mousse for quite some time now and like it very much. It is the only mousse I have tried that never makes my hair greasy or sticky and hard to comb.
It washes out easily and the fragrance is appropriate for men or women. It is a very nice scent. Not overwhelming but pleasantly subtle.
I highly recommend VS VOLUMIZING HAIR MOUSSE for anyone with thin, fine or flat hair that needs a good solid boost.
The directions on the bottle are as follows:
For all-over volume, apply mousse at roots first and spread to ends. When blow-drying, brush hair side to side, against its natural direction. For extra lift, re-apply to root area. Hold a section of hair up and away from head while blow-drying. Remove heat and hold until hair cools.
I do not want my hair to be straight and frightening looking. I prefer a wavy bouncy look. Therefore I do not use the directions on the can of mousse. You may find that they work better for you.
I prefer the method I described to you earlier in this review. It makes my hair look wavy, bouncy and like I had a very nice body perm recently, which I have not.
There is not nor has there ever been a product line like VS for fine hair and volume. I can not recommend this product and the others in this line highly enough.
