Size matters: This Large Whirlpool Clothes Washer Made Me an Honest Woman!

Pros: Large 3.2 cu ft capacity; Hand Wash Cycle; End of cycle buzzer

Cons: The loud end of cycle buzzer has no volume control. This is minor.

The Bottom Line: We are happy with the features and performance of this washing machine and consider it a good value. No complaints.

We purchased the Whirlpool LSQ9560PW3 washing machine one year ago, and have used it extensively. We sought a washing machine with as large a capacity as possible. With 3.2 cubic feet, this was one of the largest washers available. We were comfortable with the Whirlpool name and the price. We have been quite happy with our purchase.

Dianapinions’ True Confession:
It is finally time to come “clean”. Although I am generally a law-abiding citizen, I did, for many years, have a secret habit pertaining to washing my …. ahem …. feminine, delicate items. This washer helped me recover from the darkness of my addiction. More about that later.

Features and my experience:
~~~ Five load sizes, ranging from Extra Small to Super Plus. Although I mostly use the Super Plus size, it is nice to have that Extra Small setting for those occasions when I need to wash only a couple of items.
~~~Five different wash and rinse temperature settings
~~~Cycle signal: A LOUD buzzer rings at the completion of the wash load. I will warn you, this buzzer is VERY loud. My laundry room is downstairs, and I can hear the buzzer upstairs and across the other end of the house. In general, this is a good feature, but if I am standing nearby, the buzzer makes me jump and gives me palpitations! I wish there was a volume control, but this is a minor criticism. There is a dial allowing one to turn off the cycle signal, if desired.
~~~Extra rinse: Turn this dial to “on” and your clothing will be treated to an extra rinse and the end of the cycle.
~~~Hand Washable Cycle: This cycle features “a series of brief agitations and short soaks for the gentlest cleaning and minimal wrinkling”. This cycle uses “Intermittent low-speed agitation/Low-speed spin”. The hand washable cycle is even gentler than the “delicate” cycle. I have used it many times, and have been happy with the results.
~~~Other cycle choices: Normal, Super wash, Permanent Press, Delicate

Appearance:
The washer is solid white, except for the control panel, which features black text over a fashionable nickel-grey background. The control panel is well laid out, but initially looked a bit busy and wordy. However, it did not take long to get accustomed to the controls.
Dimensions: 25.5"D/43"H/26.88"W

Warranty:
There is a one-year full warranty; five year warranty on top, lid and gearcase; ten year warranty on the outer tub; lifetime warranty on the white porcelain basket

Instructions are provided in English, Spanish and French. There is a nice troubleshooting guide and typical safety warnings, such as: “Do not add gasoline to the wash water” and “Do not let children play on or in the washer”.

My overall impression:
We have had no problems so far. I will update this review if problems develop. This top-loader has a wide lid and narrow center agitator, allowing for easy filling and emptying of the washer. I love the large capacity. The washer is reasonably quiet. Our clothes emerge clean and nicely spun out. Mustard, that most challenging of stains, continues to defy my cleaning efforts. Drat! However, baby oil cleans up beautifully.

Getting back to Dianapinions’ True Confession:
Yes, I am relieved to have this opportunity to share my secret habit. For me, this will be a cathartic experience. Here goes:

I have several special items of clothing that are clearly marked “Hand Wash Only”. Well, for many years, before we owned this washer, I used to place these items in a lingerie washing bag, and stealthily wash them in the washing machine, using the Delicate cycle. My behavior was a clear violation of the wash label commandments affixed to these dainty items. With my new Whirlpool washer, with the included Hand Washable cycle, I was able to come out of the darkness, into the light, and clean my most delicate garments with my head held high. For that, I rejoice.
