Mineral lip shines that can be mixed and matched for on the go convenience!
May 18, 2010
Pros: Pretty shades, fairly long wear, use as blush in a pinch, mineral, removable pans
Cons: Pricey, hard to find refills
The Bottom Line: The Youngblood ARTISTE On the Go Compact is pricey but the lip shines are pretty and long wearing. Swap shades to personalize the compact. Gentle on parched lips.
I belong to a quarterly auto ship service called Test Tube. For $39.99, I get a tube fulled with high end samples, half sizes, and full sized cosmetics, skin care, and more. Recently, I received among other things, a full sized Youngblood ARTISTE On the Go Compact. I had never heard of this brand so I went searching on the net for it.
Youngblood is a high end mineral makeup company based in Australia. Their products are distributed all over the world and were originally developed for those healing from cosmetic procedures, surgeries, and even skin cancer. Since then, celebrities latched onto the line and made it famous. This compact contains three mineral lip shines that can be replaced with other trays of lip shine or eye shadow for "on the go".
This compact comes in a black box. The actual compact is opaque white plastic. The compact is about 4 inches long and around 2 1/4 inches wide. The top flips open to reveal three round circles of lip shine in a black plastic casing. My compact contains a poppy pink shade, a clear (looks white but goes on sheer) shimmer shade, and a deep plum shade with shimmer. The total amount of product is .14 ounce.
I wasn't sure when I first looked at the shades if they were blush or lip colors although the clear/white shade made me wonder if they were eye shadows! A quick scan of the tiny white print on the back of the black box told me the three were mineral lip shines.
There is no mirror or brush with the compact and that's fine with me. Mirrors often break and mini brushes are never any good. I apply the creamy lip shines with my finger.
They have subtle sweet scent but no taste. Each shade is quite thick and applies nicely to my lips. The clear shimmer is pretty on its own or over the other shades or lipsticks. The poppy pink is universally flattering and my favorite shade, the plum, is perfect for my skin tone. It looks natural and shiny with just a hint of shimmer.
Each pan of lip shine can be removed and other lip shines or eye shadows from the collection inserted to make the Youngblood ARTISTE On the Go Compact truly one to take on the go. I saw, on the Youngblood website, the shades are actually called Devotion, Reflection, and Fantasy. There are several lip shine shades and eye shadows that you can buy to swap out with the ones in the to go kit and more are being formulated. They also have blushes but I didn't see them in the list of refills for the kit. There is a larger ARTISTE compact that houses blushes, lip shines, and eye shadows and the on the go compact is an adjunct to that. Swap out shades from the bigger compact for on the go convenience.
At any rate, this compact is slim and definitely good on the go. I like the shades and I like the wear. I also like that they are mineral products. The shades are pretty and last a relatively long time. Of course, if I apply them with my finger, I will end up with a sticky finger. I could apply with a small brush to eliminate that but really, it's no big deal either way.
Although I like these shades and the concept of being able to swap out the shades for others, I feel the price is somewhat high for just three small pans of lip shine at $18.75 to $25.00. I probably wouldn't have purchased this compact myself but now that I have it, I do use it and like it.
Polybutene, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Octyldodecanol, Quaternium-1 Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate, Oleyl Alcohol, Synthetic Wax, Trihydroxy Stearin, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Bumetrizole, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Propylparaben, Vanillin, May Contain: Iron Oxides, CI 77499, Titanium Dioxide, Blue 1 Lake, Mica, Yellow 5 Lake, Red 6, 7 & 27 Lake, Carmine.
The Youngblood ARTISTE On the Go Compact can be purchased on a few beauty and mineral makeup websites as well as their own website. Prices vary from $18.75 to over $25.00 for the trio which only has the three shades I have. there are no shade choices when purchasing this compact. I don't have a clue where it is sold offline in the US although there are several brick and mortar stores in Australia that sell the brand.
I like this compact. The colors are pretty and the wear time is good. They're subtle but shiny and the two tinted shades can be used as blush in a pinch. Although pricey, I do like this compact and give it 4 stars. Try it if you like on the go convenience and pretty lip products!
