Vacuums

Preps, washes, scrubs and squeegees sealed hardwood, tile and linoleum floors on its own. It cleans beneath cabinet edges, tables, chairs and other hard-to-reach places while automatically avoiding rugs, carpets and stairs.

Pros: If this works properly then it will save you time.

Cons: Very expensive and you can only use their solution.

The Bottom Line: Make sure that this is what you want. The jury is still out on this one. If you like gadgets then do it.

Unlike the roomba you will have to keep an eye on the scooba.  You can also purchase this at Sears or Bed Bath and Beyond for just under $300 plus tax.  This looks like the roomba and has the same principals involved when it is in the operation mode.  Other than the color, it is approximately the same shape and size.  This will pick up almost everything, that it comes in contact with.  This is a high tech way to give yourself some more free time to other important things.

Description

This is 14” in diameter, 3 ½” high off the floor and weighs 12 – 13 pounds.  It looks like a flat plate that rides on three wheels and it has a dark blue removable tank with silver handles that sit on top of the main body.  The main body will house the tanks that will hold the cleaning solution and dirty water.  You will receive a 8 ounce bottle of Clorox cleaning solution a battery pack and power charger, and measuring cup.  On the top of the unit you will see two lights, one will be for the power and the other is for the cleaning cycle.  You will also see two handles one of these is used to release the tank and the other is used to lift the tank out of the main housing.  On top in the front there is a sensor and a bumper that when hit will let scooba know when to turn around.  Located underneath the body there are three cliff sensors, to help when they are near an edge.  As you will soon find out, there several informational lights that can be observed during the cleaning operation.  You have the power light, and clean light, service light, check tank light, check brush light, and the ever popular I am stuck light.

The power button light has four different functions and they will appear in red when the battery is empty.  The light will show a green pulsating light while it is charging, a solid green light means the battery is fully charged, and a red blinking light means that the battery is not installed properly.  During the cleaning operation, you should see two green lights, a solid green means that everything is ok and you are in the cleaning process, and a green blinking light means that all is good, and the scooba is drying the cleaning head and the cycle is almost done.

There are three warning lights, which you should be aware of.  There is a check tank light, which means that the cleaning cycle is done and that the tanks are empty.  A check brush light, which means to remove and clean the brush and filter, and an I am stuck light,  which means that it is stuck underneath something, or it is stuck on a vent, in either case the scooba must be relocated to another spot.

Experience

The first that we had to do to this was charge it up over night, and during this time we were able to read all of the directions and familiarize ourselves with the scooba.  When charging the battery mske sure that the light is on, on the charger otherwise you will not be charging the battery when you think that you are.  In addition, there are two separate tanks, this will hold the solution and water in one side and the dirty water in the other.

My wife and I have been using this model of the irobot scooba 330, for quite a few months now.  We have found that you still have to keep an eye on this unit.  It is continually getting stuck in different spots, sometimes we wonder why we purchased this.  For the most part when it works properly, it does an amazing job.  It will start going in a spiral rotation for the large rooms and then it will follow the wall to get under the edge of your counters.  Once this is done, it will crisscross the room until it has all been washed.  We have found that it is a little bit different compared to the roomba because with this you will need to remove all clutter and chairs for this to do its job.  This will do four jobs in one cleaning, it will prep the floor, wash, scrub, and dry at once.  If you like you can also use the virtual wall pod that comes with this.  If you are like us, we have doors to our kitchen so we do not have to use the virtual wall pod.  This will clean up to 250 sqft. in a single cleaning.

You cannot use this on carpeting only sealed hardwood, ceramic tile, and linoleum floors.  This will detect the difference between carpeting and hardwood flooring and then turn around when it noticed a difference.  When you run out of this solution, you do not necessarily have to buy more of it.  You can just use vinegar and water or just plain water for the cleaning cycle.  To keep this working properly we noticed that it is best to clean the whole thing up after each use.  Even though, this solution is made by Clorox, you must not add bleach to this unit, bleach is a very corrosive chemical and might affect the internal components of the Scooba.  Also, do not use this on any unfinished or unsealed floors. If you use any foamy substance in this unit, it could cause the wheels to slip and lose traction.

We have found that this can be frustrating when it does not work properly.  The easiest way to tell if something is wrong, is to listen for the noise that this makes while it is running and if it all of a sudden stops then there is something wrong.  For the most part it is amazing what this can do, it does a four-job process all at once.  When this does work properly, we love it.  It does a good job overall, but it does not replace the deep cleaning that you can give the floor.

Warranty

Just like the roomba this has a one year limited warranty.

Conclusion

If you have the extra money and do not mind checking on this as it works then go ahead and purchase this.  If you have a room with no clutter or vents for this to get stuck on or underneath then this is the product for you.
