Beating Chipotle at Its Own Game

I was a fan of Qdoba back in the day before Jack-in-the-Box bought them and they still had mole burritos. Then I switched my allegiance to Chipotle. Now I have pretty much switched my allegiance again to Cafe Rio. Here is why: Cafe Rio's grilled steak is better than Chipotle's. Chipotle sometimes doesn't cook their steak long enough so it is too rare and sometimes you get pieces with a lot of fat on them. I am yet to see these problems at Cafe Rio. … more

I've been to Cafe Rio twice now, and I had two completely different experiences. The first time, I was blinded by the marketing hype of the Pork Barbacoa Burrito -- a "house favorite". Nice addition to the Rosecrans quick serve restaraunt selection

Why Unique: The most unique thing they do is the freshly made tortillas. They make both flour and corn right in front of you. Also, when they prepare their burritos and tacos they toast the tortillas so it's crispy almost like a quesadilla. For those of you who remember what Baja Fresh was like 15 years ago... this is almost the same.... and it's delicious! Go for the tortillas, comeback for everything else

Compared to other Burrito joints in the area, Chipotle, Q'doba, Pachange, Baja Fresh, and even Cozumel's this place has the best tortillas hands down. They are made fresh on the spot and unlike the other place they are definitely tasty. The one thing to note about this place is the effort required to place an order. It's not just one and done. Delicious homemade flour tortillas that will have you coming back for more! Shredded Chix tacos are my go to...they melt the cheese on the tortilla so they are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside.

Not so sold on the Rio

General: why is this unique and different? fresh tortillas, you can definitely tell the difference Restaruants: favorite menu item? I had both the chicken and pork enchiladas. The chicken was OK but the pork was too sweet for my taste. Even my 17-month old daughter, who doesn't have discriminating taste, rejected both choices.
