Being from So Cal I'm a huge Mexican food fan! In fact I may eat it too much... That being said, for the last 2 years I've worked about 5 steps away from a Mexican restaurant that I have never eaten at. I've always wanted to eat at Cozymel's, I've just never gotten around to it. Been in there a few times for a beer but never for food.
So last week I was messing around with my Facebook app on my phone and I noticed the if you check into this Cozymel's you get a free order of queso. I told a few coworkers and the next thing I know we're on our way!
I'm a sucker for free food, so after the queso came I was feel pretty good about this experience. I've heard mixed review on the food at Cozymel's but I figured I had to find out on my own. I ended up ordering a big chicken quesadilla, which is pretty much my go to if I have no idea what to order. The quesadilla was pretty good. I've had better, but the interesting thing to me what there were mushrooms in it. This isn't the first time I've had a quesadilla with mushrooms, but It made me think, when the heck did Mexican restaurants start adding mushrooms to quesadillas? Don't get me wrong I love mushrooms, but I thought it was a little off.
Once the food was finished everyone was feeling fine. The food was okay, the queso was free, we didn't have to drive, everything sounds great!
Fast forward 1 hour. Pure stomach death! Yep, everyone had it. We all felt terrible afterwards. If I had to explain the feeling it was a mix of a food coma and intense indigestion. I made it through the pain by eating a bunch of Altoids. I'll have to explain this in another review, but at the end of the day I decided that I'm probably never going to eat at Cozymel's ever again.
Side note: The waiters and waitress here are really weird and if you sit at the bar you can actually pay for your food on a little computer thing at your table. This way you don't have to deal with the waitress that much. Ours was crazy!
