Chicago is filled with cool restaurants and sizzling scenes. One of those hot-spots (and a favorite) is People Lounge. People Lounge combines an internationally influenced ambiance with tasty Spanish tapas, for a recipe that can't be beat.
Part restaurant, part bar, People’s Lounge is a simmering destination for needed diversion and fun. Located in the heart of Bucktown, the ambiance is steeped with cozy character: wrought iron chandeliers, faux walls adorned with colorful art, 14 foot communal wood tables, and a DJ spinning hip world beats. Their impressive oak bar adorned with intoxicating varieties runs the length of the restaurant imparting a social, “let’s mingle” vibe.
Small plates are their specialty and my favorite dishes include datiles con bacon (stuffed dates), empanadas with sweet chili pork, gambas (shrimp), and their famous queso de cabra (goat cheese and tomato sauce). The small plate offerings make eating a community endeavor and great for large groups interested in sharing and sampling. People also provides larger portions including pistachio encrusted tilapia (mouth watering!) and skirtsteak (a red meat-eater favorite). As far as alcohol goes – if you’re there you must order the sangria. It’s delicious and pitchers are perfect for group cheers and sips.
It’s no wonder this place is highly accoladed with awards like “Best Small Plates” and “Best Bar Scene”. This is a great place for large groups or just a couple of friends. So if you like small plates and are looking for something with extra funk and character, People Lounge is the place to go.
