A lot of people like The Hat, especially for the restaurant's famous pastrami sandwiches. I like 'em too, but I don't think their quality is terribly consistent. Sometimes, I go to there and order the same thing time after time. There are days when my sandwich is soaked in sauce, but lacks in meat. Other days, it's dry as a bone and hard to send down.

While I do enjoy any restaurant that has a thousand different condiments free for anyone to take, The Hat just isn't my favorite spot. I go now and then, mostly with friends.

The Hat is certainly a local specialty of Southern California, so it's worth it to try it just once. If you haven't been yet, I'd definitely recommend their pastrami sandwiches as a way to start (it's what they're known for). However, if you don't like pastrami, try one of their burgers. They're huge and can easily make for a second meal.
