Raw, cheerful and energetic album from Poly Styrene and company.

Germ Free Adolescents was the first album from the UK punk band X-Ray Spex.  Front woman Poly Styrene provided the raw, cheerful and energetic vocals whilst the band provided the hard hitting and swift sounds.Poly started the band after watching The Sex Pistols in concert and was inspired by the performance of Johnny Rotten.  During their first run, the band only recorded five singles and the album Germ Free Adolescents.  The band had a saxophone player (a rarity for a punk band) and along with Poly's unique stage presence made the band stand out of the throng of other bands.

What I really enjoyed about the album was that the producer was able to capture their raw energy and the
spunky vocals of Poly on tape.  You can feel her manic energy came off the tracks.  She was a unique performer who gave it her all on the stage.  Lora Logic (the original sax player) left the band prior to the recording of the album but her arrangements are on all the songs (uncredited),  Poly's lyrics are about commercialism (Warrior in Woolworth's) , disposable society (Plastic Bag) , shiftless lifestyles (I Live Off You), lack of self identity (I Am a Poser, Identity) , wary romance (Obsessed With You) and fashion (The Day the World Turned Day-Glo).

A fun, quirky and intelligent album.
