I'm going to start with my favorite part of the rap: "New Whirl Odor Doesn't need us Call for peace Better heed us Dictators Human haters Hand on the bomb, mass debators Finger on the button, infiltrators MKLVFKWR Peace will save us"
ain't that witty: "Hand on the bomb, mass debators". And it make it's point! It seems the people that we have put in charge of running our world end up selling out working against us and our peace efforts. We need to aggressively put our attention to why that happens. But it's not a whiny complaint. Awareness comes without choice. Chuck D's voice is so powerful, and I don't think anyone else could deliver that message any better than the incredible rhyme animal. Just Chuck's precense alone will let you know what needs to be done. It's not about just talking and it's not about violence. It's about teaching and reaching, getting up and getting out.
"Power to the People Put your hands in the air Peace sign high Like you really DO care"
Listen to this song over and over again. It's helped me get my mind right a couple times.
This is a great motivating set of lyrics and a powerful track. This is the only work of Moby that I like. I'm glad they worked together to get this track some good exposure. It appears on (possibly) my favorite Public Enemy album New Whirl Ordor.
I really like how Public Enemy has become a voice for empowering people. Rap music is not a fad, people have been putting a message to beats since we started expressing ourselves and tracks like this are a testiment to it.
How ludicriously awesome is it that this was made for an global event like the Olympics that is more and more becoming comercialized? Maybe we can hijack that great idealistic sporting event back? Maybe we can hijack our governments back? Maybe we can return power to the people?
POWER TO THE PEOPLE CAUSE THE PEOPLE WANT PEACE POWER TO THE PEOPLE CAUSE THE PEOPLE WANT PEACE POWER TO THE PEOPLE CAUSE THE PEOPLE WANT PEACE POWER TO THE PEOPLE CAUSE THE PEOPLE WANT PEACE

DOPE review, Supun! I've featured it on my Hip-Hop FB page as well as my Hip-Hop Culture Community here. The funniest thing is I thought, all this time that it was New World Order. Will there ever be another group like Public Enemy? We can always hope, right?
Supun, that is a great message in the lyrics! I don't like being pessimistic, but somehow I think it is too late to bring power back to the people, the world is in different hands - unfortunately not hands that are pro-humanity. Based on your review though I think you would enjoy reading The Limits of Power, maybe it would inspire some new lyrics :)

It's never too late until the whole world ends up like North Korea. I look at Asia and I get scared at the amount of police states that there are. I look at Europe and the US and I get scared that people tune out into a consumerist delusion. But then, I put my attention on how much good there is and get the feeling it can be massaged into a workable balance. I'll check out the book. thanks.
