It sure seems that way, with the myriad guest performers on this album. But it works. Fans of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack should enjoy this bluegrassy/folksy collection of tracks.      I don't consider myself a big country music fan, but Mr. Haden's album had me alternately tapping my toes or tilting my head wistfully to the side. Yes, there is a good selection of tracks that make you want to get up and move and others that or more introspective and somber. The …

I'm not an expert on this genre of music, but I really did enjoy listening to this CD... perhaps more than I expected. It is easy to realize right away that there is lots of talent on this album... and that it was a joy for them to make. I think that energy carries over and can be perceived by the listener. Petra Haden's rendition of The Fields of Athenry …

Charlie Haden, Family, and Friends have put together a serviceable CD of country music, and there's the problem. You would think that an ensemble as talented as this would produce music that was remarkable, not just serviceable, but except for two tracks, Bruce Hornsby's rendering of 20/20 Vision, and Josh Haden's Spiritual, the cd just doesn't take off. The Sunday NY Times did a fabulous advance story that tells us 20/20 Vision - easily the best piece of the cd - almost didn't make it. This is …
