Magnificent group harmony from the late 1950's.

Not to be confused with the Indiana group of the same name that gave us the rockin' 1964 hit  "California Sun",  this Rivieras was a Northern New Jersey R & B quartet with a very distinctive sound.  Lead singer Homer Dunn would you quite a bit of Johnny Mathis. The group produced a total of 8 singles for the Coed label during their brief three year run.  All of these tunes, as well as the flips, are included in this impressive collection from Collectables.  In "The Rivieras:  Moonlight Cocktails" the group covers a number of standards from the Great American Songbook including such notables as  "Count Every Star", "It's Easy To Remember", "11th Hour Melody", "Moonlight Seranade" and the title cut of this collection "Moonlight Cocktails."   I also found most of their "B" sides to be every bit as enjoyable as well.  My personal favorite is their rendition of "Count Every Star" which I feel is the finest version of this tune ever recorded.  When I began to explore the doo wop genre many years ago The Rivieras quickly became one of my personal favorites. Unfortunately, the Rivieras disbanded when their record label folded back in 1961.  If you are a fan of the "doo-wop" sound and enjoy great group harmony then  "The Rivieras:  Moonlight Cocktails" is a disc that I would highly recommend to you!
