Fantastic music I'd listen to even if I didn't have a kid!

What a GREAT album!  I so crave great music that my daughter enjoys as much as I do... it's a constant challenge and continuous search.  As a life long, relatively rabid Bob Marley fan, it was MUCH to my delight to learn that Ziggy was coming out with his first full children's album.  But that's the thing!  It's NOT a children's album, in the sense of being music-for-kids-that's-sort-of-tolerable-for-adults variety.  It's FANTASTIC music that I'd seriously play if I were single and in college, let alone a busy working mom with a toddler.

It's happy, upbeat, energetic, spiritual (if you're inclined to read that into it) and just generally wonderful.  And the duets!  What a star studded line up he features!!  This Train  with Willie Nelson is a folksy kind of wonderful, and Wings of an Eagle with Elizabeth Mitchell (whom I ADORE and must review asap) brought me to tears.  Oh - and Walk Tall with Paul Simon... are you kidding me?  What a wonderful life lesson wrapped into an awesome song.  To look into the eyes of your child while listening to music this uplifting and endearing is one of the sweet moments in life.   You can't help but dance to the wonderful reggae beats - which is every toddler's favorite pastime, and a perfect quality of this album.  Now that my daughter is old enough to start repeating lyrics, I can't be quite so liberal with what pop music I have on ; )  .... and the lyrics of these songs could not be better suited to cultivate a sense of joy, love, hope and gratitude in her.  Just what I aim to do with her each and every day.  Wildly sappy?  Well, yes - but that's what this album did to me this morning!

The BEST part is, I just spontaneously bought us tickets to his live performance of the album for this weekend, while grandpa is in town for a visit.  As a life long, passionate fan of live music, he'll be the perfect host for our girl's first concert.  The clincher?  Finding out what a great venue he's playing at, from this stellar review of Club Nokia by @jrjohnson.

Here are the tracks:
1. Family Time with Judah Marley
2. I Love You Too with Rita Marley & Cedella Marley
3. Cry, Cry, Cry with Jack Johnson & Paula Fuga
4. Take Me To Jamaica with Toots Hibbert
5. Ziggy Says
6. This Train with Willie Nelson
7. Wings Of An Eagle with Elizabeth Mitchell
8. ABC
9. Hold him Joe
10. Walk Tall with Paul Simon
11. Future Man, Future Lady with Laurie Berkner
12. My Helping Hands written by Ziggy Marley & narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis

Thanks for this nice review. I had heard about this album, but wrote it off as a children's CD. Because of you, I am going to download it off the Zune Marketplace today! :D

I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know = ) Curious to hear what you think, especially to see if it stands up to my test of being great music even for adults! Curious about what Zune is about too... keep hearing about it, but haven't been yet.

nice review Melissa... can't wait to see if Magnus has this on his iPod. On the Club Nokia... they didn't have any seats on the bottom floor when i was there. I can't imagine that they will have the kids all stand for the whole show so hopefully they will be adding some seats. from what i understand they have seats on the second level, but as a said in my review i didn't make it up there.

thx! our seats are actually for that balcony area, so hopefully I'll have some news to share about that part of the venue.
