      Caprica is one of the most intelligently thought-out series that SyFy has ever produced - which isn't saying much these days, since it's fallen into shows like Fact or Faked and wrestling ever since the name change.      As a prequel to Battlestar Gallactica, which I have never seen, Caprica manages to combine technology, religion and terrorism in some distant future to produce some remarkably interesting drama. In an attempt to extend the fantastic Galactica franchise, the creators take us into the decades prior to the rebellion of the Cylons. How did the machines get smart enough to take on their makers? Who was responsible? These questions are addressed in the Caprica DVD.    My main beef is that the story took way too long to get interesting. Too much introspection. Welcome to "Caprica", the pilot for the BSG spinoff that will start airing next year. For reasons unclear to me, the soon-to-be renamed SyFy Channel has chosen to release this episode on DVD well before the show airs.
