A television show

The weekly animated series Drawn Together was a double-barrelled satire: a devastating lampoon of live-action reality shows and a broad takeoff of several familiar cartoon stereotypes. The premise dictated that a group of B-list cartoon celebrities was … see full wiki

Rated MA for just about any reason you can get an MA rating

I hate reality shows.

I love Drawn Together.

I hate that it got cancelled.

I love that a Drawn Together movie is being made and the story is why they got cancelled.

The premise of the show is 8 different animated cartoon characters share a house and have their adventures filmed complete with confessional scenes for characters to talk to the audience.  The characters include a 20's sex symbol (the fat one), a weird and malable Nickalodean character, a gay video game adventurer, a crass internet cartoon, a Hanna Barbara styled mystery solving gal, an anime fighting monster, a racist Disney styled princess and a Superman styled superhero who has plenty of hangups and bizzare sexual tastes.  Every character is distinct and the plotlines are diverse as well.  Episodes can involce suicide hotlines, excessive plastic surgury on sexual organs, nipple rings, contests for food, fart jokes, censorship of old cartoons, abortion, keeping black kids out of college, car crash sexual fetishes, breakfast cereal syndicates, incest, cows, masturbation, Munchausen syndrome by proxy, rape, mistaking Greek families for fraternities, bestiality, drugs, necrophillia, indian casinos and even Entertainment Weekly's scathing review of the show which causes the housemates to go crazy.

You know, for kids!!!    Not really.  Theres a reason this show got an MA rating.

Heres a good example of how this show works:  Captian Hero is depressed because he can't play sports games well and when he hears about the AIDS walk, he declares that he will win the AIDS walk, and by the time he is done training he will have done more walking and have more AIDS then anyone.  Thats about all I can possibly put here.

Much of the shows humor comes from it's extreme use of using stereotypes (racial, sexual and religous) in just about every episode and in all honesty given the real dense nature of the characters and their naivete, it's real hard to take any of it seriously, so says one of the performers on the show in an audio track.  Some of the jokes are just bad, others are lame and others I will be honest can be sidesplitting in their cleverness or their inappropraiteness.  If you get upset easy, don't even consider this show.

The first season is okay but the second and third are classic.  The continutiy of the show is non existant so you aren't missing much is you skip ahead and in the case of a two parter, there is always the handy synopsis of the previous show at the begining.  Be careful with the DVD's though, lots of uncensored language is present not to mention nudity has been uncovered or unbleeped.

Going to extremes in one episode only to have the next episode have a whole different set of extremes go in another direction, Drawn Together is great and should have lasted longer then it did.  I can at least hope that Captain Hero gets his own show.  A very bizarre and strange show.

I just found out about it, it comes out next March direct to DVD if I'm not mistaken and the whole cast is supposed to be a part of it.
