I'll be honest here and say that this was an anime series that started out with good promise but fizzled out towards the end. Some "stand alone" episodes were good, and some others were bad (especially the "Jungle Cruise" episode), but the "Laughing Man" arc needed some good tweaking because about halfway through the whole series, I figured out who the Laughing Man was, so the reveal towards the end wasn't a shocker. The Tachikomas were pretty annoying, too.
The soundtrack isn't among Yoko Kanno's brightest moments, since I literally remember no music from the show. The visuals were good, but they alone don't make a good anime series.
Skip this and just stick to Mamoru Oshii's film, Ghost in the Shell, instead.
