I watched this show faithfully from episode one, but found myself getting more and more exasperated as the plot continued to wind around itself.  I gave up in Spring 2008 and really haven't looked back even though my husband had continued to watch and informs me that it's getting better.  Even though I have a strange need to be overly consistent with my TV shows, I'm just not even tempted to pick this one up again.  Find  plot and follow it for pete's sake!

This is funny. I still watch the show, but they have to be making it up as they go. Its kind of absurd. You should check out TeamAWAC's Lost review.. it cracks me up: http://www.lunch.com/data/LOST_Because_You_L...ever_get_back-4355.html

This is the final season of Lost.

When JJ Abrams and the other main writers started out the show, they had one vision.... how it would end.  Do you know of any show like that?  Most shows start out with the pilot, then if ratings are good enough, they'll go on for season after season.  Then after ratings die down, they'll finally attempt to conclude the mess of spaghetti they tangled through all the seasons.

But Lost is different.  The writers had one thing in mind--how to end the show.  From there, they worked backwards and started at the beginning--the pilot.

You can read the other reviews on Lost and get a general gist of things--a plane crashes on a mysterious island.  Mysterious people called "The Others", a black pillar of smoke, and a devious scientific company inhabit the island.  Then, six of them get off the island.  Oh, and a rich mogul tries to take control of the island.  There's also time travel and a dude that never ages.

Lost has been a whirlwind of experiences--but most of which has been utterly confusing.  Throughout the seasons, several questions have been answered--Who's Jacob?  Can they get off the island?  Who's the Dharma Initiative?  Why are they on the island?

But this season promises to finally tie in all the loose ends.  No more questions, no more confusion... just exactly what the writers wanted us to know--what exactly is going on.

You NEED to watch this series.  Netflix it.  It's on ABC too.  Heck, torrent it if you have to... but just watch the show!

Good until I realized they weren't going to tie up any loose ends, but just wave some smoke and mirrors instead. Not thought provoking, not interesting.

I really never followed the show, so I was a bit "lost" jumping in at the end of the series. It looked interesting and hope to catch re-runs

It was a long journey and sometimes frustrating to watch but is one of the best "Sci-Fi" television series ever created.

WOW. After so many seasons of going "HUH?," it felt SO strange to actually see backstory and answers being given in recent episodes!

Lost

I first saw Lost midway through the first season and I had no idea what was going on. It had no appeal to me. So when I found out a friend had the box set of the first two seasons a year later, I spent two straight weeks watching them ... one after another ... until I got through the whole thing. I was completely surprised that I became addicted to it. I literally couldn't stop watching it, even when it was getting late and my eyes were burning ... I just kept watching. I've NEVER felt that way about a TV show before.

So when the third and fourth seasons came around, I was actually annoyed that I had to wait a week in between each episode and it made me kind of irritated that they left me hanging week after week. It's kind of like going back to an ex that keeps disappointing you, but for some reason, you can't stop because when things are going well, they're going real well. Even though I'll be hurt when they don't resolve any of the open-ended mysteries in the last two seasons (like the dark cloud monster and the unexplained, invisible Jacob character), I have no doubt that I'll keep coming back until it's really over in 2010.

It will most definitely be a love/hate relationship and you will find yourself constantly changing your mind about characters from season to season as you learn more and more about their past and present mistakes. Just expect to be annoyed over and over again when the screen goes black and they leave you hanging at the end of each show.

Another useful tip for Lost newbies ... check out one of many Lost fan club sites. People have really interesting theories about why certain unexplained events have occurred (since there are so many still left completely open ended) and some great analysis of the show's characters that will make you even more excited about the upcoming season.

Here are a few of my favorites:

http://www.lost.com/: You'll find some really interesting member theories here, plus interesting observations by dedicated Lost fans

http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=recap: To catch up on the episodes you've missed. You can watch full episodes on ABC.com as well.

http://dispatchesfromtheisland.blogspot.com/: Yes, Hurley has a blog. Well, actually, it's the actor, Jorge Garcia's, but for some reason I still read it because I love his character on Lost. It won't give you insight into Lost (they shut it down for a while because producers feared he'd give away show secrets), but it is pretty interesting nonetheless.

http://www.lostblog.net/: A popular blog about Lost. It's not too interesting now, but once the season begins, check in for some great content after each episode.

If you have some free time, I strongly suggest that you rent the first four seasons. The fifth season begins on January 21, 2009, so you have plenty of time to catch up and join other Lost fans for what I hope will be the best season ever. So give it a shot, you might just like it!

John Locke Dies!
This is not a spoiler. It really doesn't ruin anything for you I promise! But if you're on the fence about watching this season watch for finding out how and why JL passed. This season is pretty amazing for many other reasons as well. Flash backs and forwards once a staple of the show are now not used at all or are being used much differently. The time line while still random and non-senseical at times is much faster paced. The biggest reason to watch this season besides the mystery surrounding Locke is the answers. There have been more answers this season then in another in the history of the program. So do it, watch.

The Cast LOGO
I love LOST. Without a doubt it is my favorite television show ever. Trust me that's quite a feat from a girl whose past favorites have included The Nanny and Ab Fab.

The show has so much to offer beyond what is merely watched in the weekly hour, it allows for deep thought, profound conversations and reading theory blogs at 2AM while your husband wonders if marriage was the right choice...ah but I digress... let's talk about the show!

The feature that makes Lost so good to me is the character development. The viewer learns so much about each character. Most episodes take you back into the lives of each castaway pre crash. You learn not only the nuances of their personalities but also why they are who they are. We learn about their parents, lovers and friends. We learn about the highs and lows that life has offered them. We begin to relate to these people and genuinely feel as if we know them.

Along with character development, the flashbacks allow us to learn how each character is related to their fellow castaways. The writers did an amazing job on developing this intertwined net of people. Some begin to realize they are connected, and some will never know. It is simply captivating to watch the story lines and character connections develop. They really focused on this during season 1 and 2, but every now and then we still learn more and more.

I also love learning more about the Island. This mysterious Island that is far more than land in the pacific, it is an island that does not have latitude or longitudes points, and that no GPS device will take you to. It harbors many secrets and every episode we learn morw about the Island, yet feel as confused as ever. All in all, the Island is simply another vital character on the show.

Another aspect of the show that I adore are the references to popular culture which live in the show. For example the names of many of the characters refer to famous authors and philosophers: Kate Austen, John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, Charlotte Lewis etc... These name references are very applicable to the behavior of the characters themselves. I love that! Also the Hanso Foundations and the Darma Initiative are business that are part of character plots on Lost, but also have been incorporated into pop culture with their own commercials, websites and billboards. This allows for an interactive viewer experience which I think adds so much to the show. Easter eggs for us to find!

Many may criticize that Lost is not very real, but we know it isn't. Although not Science Fiction, it does have a big element of Fantasy. This element seems to grow as seasons progress.

If you haven't already been lucky enough to watch and enjoy this show, start now, you will thank me later!

First of all, I must begin by stating that I've never closely followed a show, ever. I've shown interests in shows here and there like The Office, but never really been committed to a show. With that said, I'm an addict of Lost. Before I watched any of it, I remember hearing my friends constantly talk about it, and being annoyed by their conversations. Even after watching an episode, during mid-season, I couldn't get in it. Finally, I rented the first couple episodes, and I haven't missed one since.

The main story behind Lost is about a group of survivors of a large plane crash, who are trying to just survive and get off the island. As the show continues on, more and more things start to come out in the wash. The survivors start learning that they aren't the only ones on the island. They also start noticing odd things about the island, like a mysterious, monstrous sound that often rings out across the island. They also come across a polar bear on the island. During all this, viewers are also learning about each person's past and how many of them are connected to one another. As the show has progressed, it's not only been about their survival and hopeful rescue off the island, but survival against the other people of the island, who seem to be against them.

As each episode passes, it often leaves more questions unanswered. It seems like every week offers a new, surprising twist that raises more questions and fewer answers. The end of each season has left viewers with their jaws hanging, longing for the next season to begin.

As for me, I think Lost is the best show on television. It offers amazing depth in character development, an intriguing storyline and thrilling drama and action. It's a mystery how the show will actually end over the next couple seasons, but I'll eagerly await and pitch in on the continued dialogue of Lost.
