Was Pirate Master Cut Adrift too Soon?

If you know the fate of Pirate Master then you know that it was pulled from CBS mid run and ended up only being shown on CBS.com. It was unfortunate that such a beautifully shot show was canned early and it all has to do with ratings. Although compared to Survivor, Pirate Master kept a somewhat tropical theme but this time all took place on an actual working pirate ship. The cast lived on the ship, they sailed the ship and actually had to get the ship up and running to move to the next location. It wasn't just about surviving or living in a house, they actually had to work and because of that it seemed to be one of the more tougher shows out there.

One of the main issues that came with the show though was its lack of originality. Many thought it was just a mixture of Survivor and Big Brother as nominations occurred, similar to Big Brother with a "captain" being similar to Big Brother's Head of Household. The captain would place a "black mark" on three players who would then be up for a elimination vote. The show had a very symbolic nature to it as players who were voted off were set adrift and often returned as a "ghost team" to compete against those still in the game. It did, however, have a unique prize system as although you were voted off you still kept the booty (or money) you won while on the show. In the end the final two competed to find the final treasure chest and Ben ended up winning the game.

I wasn't sad however when Pirate Master was canceled considering they placed the show on the internet only and I stopped watching after the first full-online episode. Doing so ruined the show as it took away what was so amazing about it: the footage they captured. Of course it seemed similar to Survivor but there was just something about people actually living as pirates and swinging around the ship, living on the ocean rather then land. It was adventure and reality all mixed into one and I wish it did better then it did.
