Stargate SG-1
is a science fiction television show based off of the 1994 film Stargate.  It was created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner.  Including Wright and Glassner, the show was also run by Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.  For the first five season, SG-1 was aired on Showtime.  For the remaining five seasons, it was aired on the Syfy Channel.  SG-1, with a total of 214 episodes in 10 seasons, is the longest running American Science Fiction Show on Television.

Stargate SG-1 starts one year after the film.  A team, known as SG-1, travels through ancient devices known as Stargates to travel to other planets throughout the galaxy virtually instantaneously.  Along with over two dozen other teams, the SGC (Stargate Command) help to secretly defend Earth from such threats as the Goa'uld, Replicators and later in seasons nine and ten, the Ori.  During each season, the show expands on such Earth mythology like Egyptian Mythology, Norse Mythology and Arthurian times.

Throughout all ten seasons, the SG-1 team stays mostly stable with some changes in season six, nine and ten.  The original team was composed of Col./General Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Captain/Major/Lt. Col./Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), the Jaffa Teal'c (Christopher Judge) and Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks).  Their commanding officer was General George Hammond who was played by the late Don S. Davis.  Michael Shanks left the show for season six and was replaced by Corin Nemec who played Jonas Quinn, a human from the planet Langara and country of Kelowna.  In season 7 Michael Shanks returned to his role as Daniel Jackson and Nemec departed.  In season 9, Richard Dean Anderson left the show to be with his daughter and became a recurring guest star.  Anderson's character of Jack O'Neill was replaced by Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell played by Farscape's Ben Browder.  Don S. Davis also left the show that year, also having many guest appearances (Davis unfortunately passed away a year and a half later).  His character was replaced by General Hank Landrey played by Beau Bridges.  In season 10, the character of Vala Mal Doran, played by Claudia Black was added as a member of SG1.

After ten seasons of SG-1, two straight to DVD films were released.  The first, The Ark of Truth, which wrapped up the season nine and ten Ori storyline and the second, Continuum, which focused on time travel and the last Goa'uld system lord, Ba'al.  A third SG-1 film is in the works.

SG1
When Stargate SG-1 ended its run on March 13th 2007, there were a lot of mixed emotions.  For me it was a bittersweet moment.  While I was definitely sad to see SG-1 go, I was able to look ahead to the future a little.  I still had Atlantis to look forward to (little did I know it was going to be prematurely canceled) as well as the two SG-1 films that were later released.  It's hard to get upset about a show leaving the air after such an amazing run.  Ten years is …
