I think I've mentioned in other reviews that I love most BBC productions. I love DR WHO, PRIMEVAL and even some of the comedy shows (and who doesn't love MONTY PYTHON?). Strange is another one that I have just discovered. John Strange is an Anglican priest who has a first hand experience with demons. He decides that he must spend his life defending humanity from the forces of hell. His superiors in the church, however, do not want him to do so. His immediate superior, played by Ian Richardson, causes him to be defrocked. Now, he is just Mr Strange. In the first episode, he enlists the help of a lovely nurse, played by Samantha Janus. I won't tell you more because their teaming up has much to do with the plot of the first episode and I don't want to spoil it. The British seem to handle horror much better than the average American film company. Americans use blood, gore, vomiting pea soup and superfluous sex rather than plot or characterization. The British delve much deeper into the character development and the scares are actual scares rather than gory messes. The writing is up to the usual BBC writing and the actors are all at least competent. Just like the aforementioned BBC series, I highly recommend this series as well.
Once again, the series is not available on DVD. However, I bought the entire series, 6 episodes, on DVDr from ioffer.com for $10, including shipping. As I've said before, if the actual studios won't release the DVDs, then we have no choice but to buy the DVDr format.
