Here's a Great Show that Should Have Been a Movie Trilogy

First, a disclaimer: I like Aaron Sorkin, who wrote Studio 60. I liked West Wing. I liked "A Few Good Men." I'm a sucker for fast-paced dialogue and witty banter between likeable, yet flawed, characters. I am the right audience for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

The first episode sucked me in. The second kept me. As I would get a new disc from Netflix, I was tempted to cancel social commitments just to find out what happened next.

But one day, one episode, I stopped caring. It stopped being as much fun. I kept watching only because I knew there weren't many episodes left, and I might as well see how it all ends. The final episode was satisfying, but partly in a glad-we-got-that-taken-care-of way.

The storyline just wasn't sustainable. There's GREAT stuff there. Great acting. Great writing. But it could have been consolidated into a couple of movies. It got too convoluted for a weekly audience to jump in midway. Since you had to be in for the whole ride to really appreciate it, I think it was the wrong format.

Since we have what we have -- a few DVDs worth of episodes -- I still recommend it. If you were a West Wing fan, a Matthew Perry fan, a Bradley Whitford fan, an Amanda Peet fan or a sketch comedy fan, add it to your queue. But savor the early episodes. I wish I had.

Very well said. One of my friends was a writer on the show. I tried extra hard to maintain the weekly excitement, but it just fell of my must watch radar around week 3.
