Pros: Fun free ride mode

Cons: Frustrating challenge and trick mode

The Bottom Line: Overall I only found it worth playing the free ride mode, but the challenge and trick modes can be fun if you have patience to practice a lot.

In this Gamecube Skateboarding game you can play as different Disney characters. The character choices are sort of limited, but there are at least some Disney favorites such as Mickey and Minnie. Other characters you can choose are Donald, Goofy, Pete, and Max. Once you choose a character you then choose a board, although in the beginning you only have one option unlocked, however you can still choose what color you want the wheels to be. Once you unlock outfits you can also choose different outfits and colors for the characters.

The main mode to play is Challenge Mode. In this mode you try to complete five different challenges per course, such as get over 10,000 points by doing tricks. You also need to get the five checkpoints in order to win a level in challenge mode. I found the challenges were not too difficult, although it was annoying that you had to remember what the five challenges were as it does not clearly tell you while in the level. Finding all the checkpoints is what I found difficult in this mode and after many unsuccessful tries to get all the checkpoints in the challenge mode I finally just gave up. I did at least figure out that the small map in the bottom right corner shows a red path line that guides you to all the checkpoints, but following it is not always easy because the skills needed to keep on the path take some practice to master. I still found it fun, though, to just play doing tricks in the levels.

Another mode is Trick Championship Mode. In this mode you do tricks on a half pipe. This is kind of fun, but got boring quickly to me because you just go back and forth on the pipe. I also got frustrated in not being able to score anywhere near high enough to beat any of the computer challengers. They would get scores like in the 50s and 60s and the highest I got was 7.

Basically this game came down to being a frustrating game for me with too much confusion in how to find all the checkpoints in the Challenge mode and the computers being too hard to beat in the trick mode, which also related to my frustration in not knowing how to land big point tricks. I did however find that it was fun to just skate around doing tricks without any objectives, as the graphics are pretty good for a Gamecube game and I like the subtle Disney theme to it. Thus I did find it worthwhile just in the fact it has a Free Ride mode, which I think will appeal to kids, however the difficulty of playing the other modes may make this game unappealing to kids, especially if they are prone to get frustrated with video games and only like playing ones they can beat without much practice.
