Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles is an action role-playing game that was released for the Gamecube in 2004. It has been six years since the game's release, and I still enjoy playing it. I know that people say that the game is not a real Final Fantasy game, and that it sucks because it is lacking that rpg "feel" if you will. When the game was released, it was originally created for younger gamers; maybe trying to create more fans of the series in a sense. I feel that the little chibi world perspective isn't half bad, it is actually cute a little bit. Going along with that, I have to say that is the perfect "feel" for this game anyway, because the story is about you creating a character from a family that specializes in a certain trade, and you go collect myyrh for your family to use. The game tries to portray a sense of adventure in this way. The design and story goes hand-in-hand. The only Real problem I have with this game is the face that you have to actually carry the myyrh chalice (Im including the moogle when I say you). If you run outside of it's "area", you take damage. It is true that the game didn't need this. Although, I feel the game would be too easy to play without this fact. Second, I really dislike all the backtracking. it does get real tedious, real fast. Looking past this point, I like the fact that you have infinite magic in dungeons, this comes in real handy. The sacrifice for this, however, is that you lose the magic you find everytime you beat a dungeon. I find this a small price to pay. Another thing I enjoy seeing, is combing magic to make even stronger magic. Here is my full list of pros and cons of the game.
Creating your characters and choosing their trade/class
Infinite magic in dungeons
Revisit dungeons to get infinte items and leveling up this way
Multiplayer makes the game a really enjoyable experience
Fresh new look and story
Lose magic every time dungeon is defeated
Other characters you create cannot be A.I. Controlled
Only Leveling up through "power ups" you obtain via dungeon bosses, making you beat the same bosses repeatedly
Multiplayer is only through four GBA's, although the game could handle four controllers effortlessly
Overall, The game is a fantastic try, altough I wouldn't suggest anyone with little patience to try this one. I would reccomend this game to all fans of the series, or If your just a fan of adventure games. Go pick up copy next time your bored and want to try something new!
JUST PLAY THE GAME IF YOU ARE BORED OUT OF YOUR MIND! Not any other time. That is All!
