A chance to wander around Middle Earth

Lord of the Rings Online is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). Recently this world has shifted from a monthly subscription model to "free". Overall this is a fairly decent MMORPG. It's well suited to solitary play, yet many quests require multiple players.

Middle Earth is well designed and faithfully recreated although many areas have been added for which there was no information so clearly the game designers used their own imaginations. The graphics are absolutely beautiful as long as you have the hardware to display them at high quality settings.

Most quests are the basic "run and fetch" which dominate most games, but the involvement of famous characters from the story adds a nice touch. Like most games, it gets dull killing the same creatures over and over again. But as a world to explore, I've enjoyed LOTRO more than most games.

Unfortunately the user interface is not well designed for (text) chatting. This game strongly encourages usage of voice comms (headset) between players.
