Unsavory characters, excellent artwork, a blast!

"Curse of the Opera" is in no way your routine HOG game. It is a cut above the rest. Not only are the characters and plot interesting, the artwork is excellent, the music suitably creepy and the mini- games are hard, not like the usual fluff. This is not a game for children and it rises above being casual. Nevertheless, there are many hidden objects to find, some of which you have to utilize by performing the appropriate function. You are going to be kept busy poking your nose everywhere, gratifying for HOG buffs. But serious gamers should not shy away from this game. However, you will have to enter several areas more than once to look for objects and the repetition of scenes you've already visited may be annoying to many players. Although this is a fault of the game, I still believe it deserves 5 stars.

A seedy opera troupe lands in a remote creepy town where nothing seems to work, even the phones are dead. Why is the town totally empty of people to see the opera? Where on earth is the audience? One by one the unpleasant opera personnel are ending up dead, too, and their remains go missing. However it's doubtful anyone will grieve over these homicides body or no body. Weird goings on in a weird little town.

You may be the opera company's lowliest employee but the company depends on you, as stagehand to find items such pliers, a key, a crowbar, electric wires, and other objects as you go along and as general factotum and mechanic you have to clear up this mess- not only solve the murders but get everything working in the town. You will talk to all the characters before they are bumped off: among others there's Hilda the Wagner prima donna with the big boobs and Viking helmet and Tiberius the orchestra conductor, loftily snooty, and Giles the totally gross handyman.

You not only have to solve the mystery you have to get out of the town yourself all in one piece. And you've got a long way to go! "Curse of the Opera" rates right up there with "Dire Grove."
