Nintendo 64 owners have been patiently waiting for a decent role-playing game, and, at long last, one has arrived in the form of the perplexingPaper Mario. World-famous video game icon Mario stars in this unconventional RPG, which was originally announced … see full wiki
I know what you're thinking: "PAPER Mario?! What on Earth were the executives at Nintendo thinking when they released this?" Well, let me say that as dumb as the title sounds in concept this is one of the most ADDICTING RPGs on any console. I'll have to divide a few categories to fully describe the entertainment value of this game.
Gameplay: It is pretty straight forward with a turn-based combat system, but certain button combinations will allow you to perform special movies and inflict increased damage on your opponents. Also, as Mario you are joined by a multitude of various sidekicks that essentially cover the major species from the various Mario games.
Graphics: They are pretty good, in all honesty, considering they set out to make an environment that resembled paper. Everything looks as good as "Paper Mario" for the Nintendo 64 could, and sometimes the effects are able to impress the gamer.
Child gamers: This is a great game for kids that they will just eat up because of the familiar characters and the humorous dialogue. As someone who grew up on games like this I can confirm without a doubt that Paper Mario will have kids laughing and enjoying themselves for hours on end unless they just don't like the gameplay.
Adult gamers: After several years I dusted off my Nintendo 64 because being older I wanted to go back to games I didn't play as a kid, such as GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, but before I did that I decided to dust off my old gaming cartridges for nostalgia's sake. Soon I had popped in Paper Mario and there I found myself sitting there intently playing it again. Sure, the humor won't entertain anyone over the age of thirteen, but the gameplay will have you interested.
Paper Mario is just a fun game, plain and simple. It is still my favorite game in the long running Mario series of games alongside Super Mario World and I give it a very high recommendation for anyone with kids, or who just wants to have a clean and fun gaming experience.
