In a world where it's every man for himself... Here comes Pikmin!

I have children. I wont go so far as to say that I buy video games for them so that I can play them myself but in the case of Pikmin, both 1 and 2. That is exactly what happened.

This adorable little premise, this beautiful little utopic ideal comes alive in the little creatures called Pikmin.   I love them!

Captain Olimar is out traveling in space and crashes his space ship on an uncharted planet. Upon realizing that his ship has broken apart and scattered across the landscape of a vast planet (which is actually very Earth-like.) He comes to the realization rather abrutly that he is going to need some help finding and carrying the pieces back to the landing site to rebuild his ship and get home to his loving wife, his demanding boss and his two wonderful little kids.

On surveying the surface of the planet, Olimar stumbles upon these large numbered seed pods and wonders what they are for exactly. Then Olimar finds a strange little plant like thing, burried under the earth with these tiny leaves sticking out. Of course... He plucks it from the eart only to discover what he affectionately names the Pikmin. He names them after his favorite brain of carrot back home. The Pik-Pik brand.

Soon Olimar discovers the these little creatures are not only friendly... But extremely helpful. As the Pikmin is tossed at the seed pods mentioned earlier, he finds that a wonderful thing happens... The Pikmin retrieve them and take them back to their ship and the ship assimilates the pod and in return out come more pikmin!!!  Amazing!

Soon olimar begins to figure things out and learns with comentary, how the pikmin behave, where to find them, how they work and what unique skills they have to help him find the lost pieces of his ship and make his way home!

In a world where no one helps anyone else anymore. For children especially this game teaches a sense of togetherness and teamwork. That when you join together with friends of a like mind, with genuine intent and a goal... Anything can be accomplished!

It is a great social learning tool as well as a heck of a lot of fun to play.   The pikmin protect Olimar and also keep him from getting into trouble with the local insects which are HUGE in comparison to the size of the tiny pikmin and tiny Olimar.

This game is worth every penny!   Do your kinds a favor and buy them this game if you dont already have it.   Everything is fabulous from the graphics to the music and the creatures in the game. The landscape is fabulous and the camera is wonderful to maneuver unlike some of the other similar games that came out at that time.

Trust me... You'll love it... Errr... I mean YOUR KIDS... Will love it!   *Smiles.

Nice review, Lisa! I agree that everybody, kids included, would love this game. Have you heard of the various LEGO games that are out? Those seem to be a favorite also, especially the LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures video game that some folks have reviewed here on Lunch. Have fun playing!
