The game of the year for 2005 makes its way onto Wii.

Resident Evil 4 is the fourth game in the main Resident Evil series. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition was developed by Capcom and published by Nintendo of Australia. It was released on May 31st 2007.

Resident Evil 4 is a third person survival horror shooter. Players take control of Leon S Kennedy as he battles evil creatures in search of the president daughter. Although Resident Evil 4 is apart of the main Resident Evil series, it is the first to not feature zombies as the main antagonists. This change makes  the gameplay radically different from all other Resident Evil games as this time around enemies don’t lumber awkwardly towards you, now they wield melee weapons (like pitch forks, axes and torches) and think collectively, all this to stop you from completing your mission. This is a good thing as it gives gamers more of a challenge, unfortunately for you Leon isn’t always armed to the tee and weapons and ammo can be hard to come by. When you do find things like ammo or herbs you don’t always have to use them as soon as you get them, Resident Evil 4 has an inventory system where you can store away certain things until you need them, but you have to be careful because if your attach case gets full you cant store things anymore until there is free space.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is the perfect example that big good looking games can work on Wii, although it’s a linear game it certainly doesn’t feel like it, with its large environments and almost endless amounts of gameplay. A few other things that make this game so great is that its an awesome action filled shooter with some puzzle elements to it (so your not just shooting people for 15 hours), frantic quick time events that keep you on your toes and the Separate Ways subplot. Originally the Separate Ways subplot was only found in the PS2 version of the game, now both Assignment Ada and Separate Ways subplots are included in the Wii version. Resident Evil 4 also features the Resident Evil Video player (a video player so you can watch all the cut scenes over again) and lastly Mercenaries mode. For those you don’t know mercenaries mode is basically a challenge mode, you choose from a list of characters from Resident Evil 4 (Leon, Krauser, Ada etc...) to take on loads of creatures from the game. (Similar to the Challenge mode in Dead Space Extraction and the Stayin Alive mini game in House of the Dead: Overkill).

The Graphics is Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition are amazing, its kind of sad that the Wii has been out since 2006 and this is the best looking game so far. The Gameplay in Resident Evil 4 is a mix of both puzzle and shooter. Like Dead Pace Extraction music plays a big part in setting the mood for certain parts of this game. An example would be when you first encounter regenerators. Not only is their erratic, strained breathing and menacing appearance creepy but the music that plays when they are close by is very unnerving. The controls in the game were hard to learn at first but there really simple once you play with them for a while.

Overall Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition was and still is an amazing game, everything about it was just plain awesome from the soundtrack to graphics, gameplay, story, character models, voice actors all great. If you want the most cinematic experience on the Wii this is it. Not to mention you get a good 20 hours or more of gameplay out of this. Some points for criticism are, when you are shooting you are forced to stand stationary, this is bad because when you’re surrounded by numerous thinking enemies its easy to bet overwhelmed. Secondly there is almost always never enough ammo around, so most of the time your guns will always be empty, and lastly when you first start the game you are not given a tutorial on the controls so you have to figure them out yourself.

Like I said before Resident Evil 4 Wii edition is the perfect example that big good looking games can work on Wii, this is a great game and at bargain bin prices now ......it’s a steal. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition gets 9.5 out of 10.
