A video game
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a video game published by Konami.
The game will follow a similar plot to the original with the protagonist Harry Mason searching for his daughter, Cheryl in the mysterious town of Silent Hill, following her disappearance after a car accident.
Throughout the game, the player will be observed and evaluated by the game, and their actions will have an effect on multiple aspects of play, including characters' attitudes and clothing.
Different areas may also be unlocked, and Silent Hill and its attendant monsters can also change accordingly. Harry is equipped with a cell phone, which can check the map with a GPS interface, receive text- and audio-messages, take pictures, and call numbers. The player can also use it to zoom in on the environment. Checking scattered diary pages and the like have also been removed; now the player may search the environment by looking at it and utilize the above-mentioned handheld device for zooming in on small text and objects.
According to producer Tomm Hulett, the way the story is told will depend on how players play the game with all areas being accessible. Combat has been removed from the game in favor of evading monsters. In the Wii version, the Wii Remote will be used for puzzle solving, to control the player's flashlight and as a cell phone with global positioning system and camera features.
Plans for a Silent Hill remake, and rumours related to the project, were circulating as early as 2006, with the idea of a remake based on the Silent Hill film. The idea of a remake was also considered early in the development of the prequel game Silent Hill: Origins, under the title Silent Hill: Original Sin.
Rumours of a remake persisted into 2009, and were seemingly confirmed the following month when the British Board of Film Classification re-rated the game. The game will be developed by Climax Studios, and was originally announced in the May 2009 issue of Nintendo Power. The development team was made up of more than 55 team members, with a supporting network of more than 90 artists.
The story follows Harry Mason, who wakes up after a car accident to find that his daughter Cheryl is missing. Harry will wander the snowy streets of Silent Hill searching for answers of her disappearance, but when the world freezes over, he will need to escape the lumbering demons that haunt his steps. Harry will need to navigate both worlds to discover the truth; not just about his missing daughter, but also the type of person he actually is.
Implementation of a cell phone as the user interface, which acts as a story telling device, map, puzzle helper, and camera.
New nightmare sequence focus on escape and evasion rather than direct confrontation.
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will feature an all-new soundtrack by series composer Akira Yamaoka.
