I don't "Digg" your categories

Although I am a frequent user of Digg (a social bookmarking and sharing site), I think it can use some improvements. When I read something I find useful or worth sharing, I often "Digg" it. This simply means I submit it to digg.com and it is bookmarked. Other users can then see that  I like that particular site, image, article, etc. and that they can then choose to check it out and Digg it as well.

What I DO like: On digg.com you are able to capture an image with what you are choosing to submit. You can "shout" it to your friends...meaning they are sure to see what you have submitted.

What I DON"T like: Once you submit your link, you are asked to choose a category it falls best under. Digg only offers 8 main categories: Technology, World and Business, Science, Gaming, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Sports, and Offbeat. These categories may seem broad enough for most users, however I have a hard time (every time) trying to pick the most appropriate category. I am often submitting articles and sites that relate directly to party planning and entertaining. By default I either have to choose Lifestyle>Food & Drink or Offbeat.

I suppose this is more of a personal issue than a major critique of the site however, it is my personal review. I appreciate social bookmarking sites (like Stumble Upon) that allow you to type in your own tags and categories each time you submit a new link. Like I said though, I do use Digg often...will this be such a major hang-up that I stop bookmarking on digg.com? I assume not- but there is always room for improvement right?

I can see your dilemma... as Digg started out as a tech site. It competed directly with reddit and slashdot to provide techies with humor and tech related news. If you want more categorization power, check out stumbleupon.com.
