Just last week, my fraternity hosted a benefit concert called "Raise the Roof" held on the CSU Long Beach campus that raised awareness and funds for an organization providing shelter and homes for families in the Philippines.  Since it was my fraternity, I was not too concerned with who was performing - I was simply excited to support a great cause.

It was to my surprise as I walked in and read the program that Gabe Bondock, Leejay and Passion were on the lineup to perform! These are three emerging musicians that have truly dedicated their time and talent to promoting awareness of Asian-American artists trying to generate audiences throughout the world.  They have certainly been favorites of mine as they've gathered popularity throughout the years.

This set was incredibly special since I have never seen these three artists play together. I was confused when the MC announced them as "GLP" as I did not know who he was talking about, but as they began to play, I quickly realized that had gotten together for the night to perform some great music.

I always enjoy listening to Passion's voice, as he seems to have all the great characteristics of a R&B singer.  But this set got me to finally give some props to Gabe Bondock and his infamous guitar talent. It is amazing to think what kind of twist he can put a guitar sound to a song that doesn't necessarily have acoustics found in them.  The last member of this talented trio, Leejay, is somebody I am least familiar with.  He adds the art of "beatboxing" to the mix, not to mention a dose of good comedy to enjoy.  While many would hesitate to think that a beatboxing talent adds significance to a singer and acoustic fanatic, you would be surprised what these guys put out together.

I sat in my seat with chills as each song started to play throughout their composed melody. I could not believe what I was hearing! Although they were all covers, I was impressed with the kind of ownership they as a band put in each song they sang.  These guys had everybody in the audience feeling so glad they had chose to attend, including myself, and left all of us wanting more.  And since these guys usually perform solo, I am now inspired to look out for their future performances together. I really do hope I get to see them again live.  My personal favorite has to be their rendition of John Legend's Green Light.

For now, I simply point you to the video.  If you're a fan of any of these three fine artists, you'll enjoy hearing them perform with some fun additions to their normal sets.

Enjoy!

Freakin' awesome video! Are you familiar with AJ Rafael? He's played in shows with Passion (& I think maybe Gabe, too) a few times. He's got a cover of Gabe's "Gentlemen Don't". Pretty hot.
