I don't commit video game announcement dates to memory, but I was pretty anxious for the often hyped premiere of Halo: Reach to be unveiled during the VGA's (Video Game Awards) on December 12. I didn't actually tune in to watch the show, but I was logged into my Xbox that night to check out the latest video tease from Bungie.
I was disappointed.
Graphically, everything looked great. But things are supposed to look great at this point, so pretty graphics alone aren't enough to win us over. Instead of a preview of the type of action we can expect in Halo: Reach, we got a rather lame dialog between a bunch of soldiers which revealed nothing in regards to their mission. Just standard "cut-and-paste" soldier dialog which is also starting to become a tired genre in and of itself.
Generic Soldier #1: "Didn't think anyone survived Degassi, sir" Generic Solder #2: "Spartans never die, George. They're just missin' in action"
Essentially, this "World Premiere" offered absolutely no new information regarding the upcoming game. Understandably, this is still a very early glimpse at a game that has a long ways before release, but based on some of Bungie's previous trailers, including this Live Action Halo ODST Trailer, there were some really high expectations.
I hope the upcoming Halo: Reach beta which is included in Halo:ODST has more to offer.
