I used to love reading The Sartorialist, which is a fashion photography blog headed by Scott Schuman. He walks around the streets of New York, Berlin, Stockholm, Miami, or any other fashionable metropolis, snapping beautifully executed shots of people on the street. We get to people-watch some beautiful folks in interesting, pretty outfits. What's not to love?
The complaint I mainly have is that these days, Schuman mainly just takes a lot of pics of people who work in the fashion industry, often those clustering around the latest fashion shows. It's nothing new. If you work in fashion, then of course you're thin and you're decked out in Prada. Of course you look like you just walked out of a fashion mag. Show me something that I don't know!
In the early days of his blog, it seemed more creative and inclusive. Schuman took pics of students, old people, laborers, etc. In short: real people who've ingeniously found their own way of working that high-low angle of fashion, mixing and matching cheap generic buys with more expensive finds. As such, the outfits were a bit more innovative, a bit more unusual than just some fashion publicist in her company's clothes posing outside Bryant Park. Next, please!
I'll still read The Sartorialist, but I just want to say: Mr Schuman, if this is a streetwear blog, then show me some "street!'
