I could live on Fish Taco's and White Wine

I like wine...... I like food and I love combining the two and playing the flavors off each other to see what I can come up with.  I recently paired up a 2008 Wild Horse Malvasia Bianca with my favorite Pier 46 Fish Taco's and it flat out worked.

The Wine
The Malvasia Bianca is a rather unique grape variety that Wild Horse makes in a dry style.  It has a beautiful aromatic nose full of grapefruit, tangerine, and jasmine and the nose suggest a sweet wine but the first sip dispels that notion.  The wine is well balanced with a crisp acidity and a clean refreshing finish.

The Taco
As I wrote in my Pier 46 review, the Fish Taco's are off the hook and perfectly put together.  Tender succulent pieces of fresh fish in a warm delicious tortilla and the perfect ratio of fish to tortilla to cabbage.

The Pair
When I think about food and wine pairing I am looking for contrast (like a sweeter style Riesling with spicy Thai food) or similarity (such as a spicy Zinfandel with a spicy pulled pork sandwich).  The Malvasia Bianca and the Fish Taco's worked for several reasons.  For starters the rich buttery fish left a lingering aftertaste on my palette that one sip of Malvasia Bianca cut right through.  The fresh acidity of the wine ripped right through the oily aftertaste of the taco and freshened my taste buds right up.  The other sensation was the lime juice that is drizzled on the cabbage paired up and complemented the zesty grapefruit and tangerine notes of the wine.  When you bump into a food and wine match this good it is as though you would never fill up or have to stop eating.  It is almost as if after each bite and sip of wine you are so refreshed you get a do over.....and it can go on and on and on...........

This sounds great, although your suggestion of a spicy Zinfandel with a pulled pork sandwich sounds even better.
