My Favorite soups

  • Jan 4, 2011
I love soups. Here are my favorites.
1
Clam Chowder
I had some clam chowder on my birthday a couple of weeks ago. It was a hearty one with lots of potatoes and clams. I could eat this every day, but I sadly I do not.
2
Miso Soup
This is a staple in Japanese cuisine. It is great to eat on a cold day. It made with tofu and seawood in a fish stock base.
3
French Onion Soup
I love how the onions melt with the cheese and bread when I eat it.
4
Tomato
I love tomato soup with lots of garlic, onions and carrots.
5
Saimin
This is a local food favorite in Hawaii where I live. I love saimin with green onions, roast pork and cabbage.
6
Chicken Noodle
This is another soup that I prefer to eat fresh instead of out a can. I like to put celery and carrots in this soup with fresh made noodles.
7
portuguese bean soup
This is another local food favorite. It made with a tomato soup base, kidney beans, cabbage and portuguese sausage.
8
cucumber soup
This is a delicious creamy soup tastes great. It is made with milk, sour cream, cucumbers, onions and dill.
9
Cream of Mushroom Soup
I love anything with mushrooms in it. My ideal bowl of this soup would have parsley, onions, butter and pepper and lots of thick mushrooms.

What did you think of this list?

Yum to them all - even 'saimin' which I've never had, but, if it's from Hawaii, it must be good :) I'd add butternut squash soup, and a beef barley soup made w/ground beef, barley (!), tomatoes, and lots of veggies. With fresh bread ...

I'm a soup fan too and this is a great list. I had to rack my brain because I knew a favorite of mine was missing. It finally dawned on my, Peanut Soup. You've got to try it out, this is a great variation: http://www.history.org/almanack/life/food/fdpnutsp.cfm Aloha!

Your list made me hungry! Clam Chowder is my favorite. I have never heard of #5 - you live in Hawaii? Lucky you!! Great list!

Fortunately clam chowder is not too hard to make, even if it is a pain to cut all the potatoes :-)

YUM! Clam Chowder is my #1 too, in a real Sourdough bowl in SF....mmmm.....The other night I made a Butternut Squash soup by mistake and it was SO good, so I'd have to add that to this list. And I've never had 5, 7, or 8 but, they sound really good. Great list! Happy belated b-day :)

How do you make Butternut Squash soup by mistake? Sounds good!

I had planned on a White Bean Kale soup but, realized it was more like a meal- very heavy. I had some leftover Butternut Squash from the night before, so decided on that. It's SO good- no one said a word as they slurped it all up LOL...I'm going to post the recipe here now!

Right on with your #1! I fell in love with Clam Chowder when I went to school out in Boston. Delicious and something I crave every fall. Fun list!

Fun list . I could add a few of my favourites as well ... black bean soup, beef barley soup, ratatouille and gazpacho. Another one that I discovered in southern France is cassoulet ... a very hearty white bean and sausage soup. It's so thick one might almost call it a casserole.
