Every major news network covered it, every newspaper printed it, and everyone knew that Michael Jackson had died.

The Best Gadget of 2009 Award

Nominees:
•   Motorola Droid
•   The Nook
•   iPhone 3GS
•   The Flip
•   Beats Solo by Dr. Dre
 
 I feel like this has been the battle of the phones year. The Droids, The Palm Pre, but I feel the iPhone 3GS has one up on all of them, Apps and lots of them. I can honestly say I use my computer less because of my iPhone 3GS.

There were many popular films of the year such as Harry Potter, Twilight, Angels and Demons, but none of those compare to the beauty that Quentin Tarantino has put together in this film.

This was a tough one due to the fact that there are so many good games in the nominations, but I had to go with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the overall hype of the game. There was so much hype and the game still lived up to expectations.

This was probably the hardest award to figure out. I decided on Alberto Contador mainly because I feel Le tour de France is the most labor intensive, painful experience an athlete can go through today and he won it.

Although this is not my favorite show currently, I feel Glee has done amazing in its first season. The other shows in the category are also doing amazing yet most of them are not in their first season and what Glee has done is bigger.

I feel like Taylor Swift is everywhere. She has been on every talk show known to man, hosted SNL, won most if not all musical awards there are and she's only 20.

•   FC Barcelona
•   University of Alabama Football
 
FC Barcelona has been the team to watch in 2009. Not only did they win La Copa del Rey, they've won the Spanish La Liga and the UEFA Champions League pretty much putting them at the top as the best Soccer team in the World right now.

The Biggest Mess Up of 2009 Award

•   David Letterman Scandal
•   Tiger Woods Affairs
•   Balloon Boy Hoax
•   The Secret Service (White House Crashers)
•   Mark Stanford Mistress
 
There were a lot of mess ups in 2009, but none of them come close to Tiger Woods. Known as an amazing golfer, with a loving family and his life gets turned upside down when news surfaces about not 1, but upwards of 14 different affairs.

I would have to give this award to Down by Jay Sean. Jay Sean was found on MySpace by his label and has risen to the top. His song has been made famous on all the radios stations and was used in NBC's new hit show "The Sing Off".

Ironically enough... Inglourious Basterds just picked up a nomination for Best Picture at the Academy Awards...

Great list. You clearly put a lot of work into this. In the movie part, I would have taken Twilight off the list and replaced it with "District 9".

Ya to be honest with you I haven't seen either and I figured Twilight was a huge movie it had to be nominated. Supposedly the Hurt Locker was actually the best out of all of these haha

That's OK. Some of your list I have not seen, either. But if you had to choose, watch District 9 -- cool science fiction.

He won Le tour de France this past summer beating Andy Schleck and Lance Armstrong. He's kind of like the Lance Armstrong of today.
